What Does a Junior Salesforce Developer Do?

A junior Salesforce developer either works directly for Salesforce or for an organization or company that utilizes the Salesforce CRM platform and technology, such as cloud computing tools, to provide their clients with storage and business information software. As a junior developer, your duties are to code applications or assist in the customization of a client’s data storage and cloud computing tools, as well as any client dashboards or other applications they may need. What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Junior Salesforce Developer, and why are they important?

To excel as a Junior Salesforce Developer, you need a foundational understanding of programming (such as Apex and JavaScript), Salesforce platform knowledge, and often a relevant degree or Salesforce certification. Familiarity with Salesforce tools like Visualforce, Lightning Components, and the Salesforce CLI is typically required, along with the Salesforce Certified Platform Developer I credential. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate with team members and stakeholders help you stand out in this role. It can also be overwhelming to work with large data models and integrate third-party applications. To overcome these hurdles, it's helpful to actively seek mentorship from senior developers, utilize Salesforce Trailhead modules for hands-on learning, and participate in regular code reviews. Open communication with team members and leveraging Salesforce's extensive documentation can also accelerate skill development and problem-solving.
