CHA Consulting, Inc. is seeking a Civil Engineer Lead - Aviation to join our Aviation Team in Indianapolis, IN. In this role, you'll combine technical project leadership with people leadershipโ€”guiding engineering teams, supporting project delivery, and helping develop the next generation of engineers.

 

Previous aviation experience is preferred but not required. We welcome civil engineers with backgrounds in site development, land development, transportation, municipal infrastructure, water resources, or other civil infrastructure disciplines who are interested in applying their expertise to aviation projects.

This opportunity is ideal for an experienced engineer who is ready to step into their first formal management role or for an emerging engineering leader looking to expand their leadership responsibilities.


  • Lead the planning, design, and delivery of civil infrastructure projects supporting airports, including airfields, terminals, roadways, parking facilities, utilities, and site development
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver high-quality projects on schedule and within budget
  • Mentor, coach, and support the professional development of junior engineers while fostering a collaborative, high-performing team environment
  • Assist with assigning work, balancing team workloads, and supporting day-to-day project execution in partnership with senior leadership
  • Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, and technical quality while ensuring successful project delivery
  • Build strong relationships with clients, contractors, regulatory agencies, and internal project teams
  • Support business development by participating in proposals, client meetings, and project pursuits
  • Perform periodic field observations during construction, participate in progress meetings, and support construction administration activities as needed

  • Bachelorโ€™s Degree in Civil Engineering required
  • Minimum of 4 years of progressive civil engineering experience in civil site design, land development, municipal infrastructure, transportation, aviation, or other horizontal infrastructure projects
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required
  • Demonstrated experience leading projects, mentoring junior engineers, or coordinating technical teams
  • Previous formal management experience is preferred but not required
  • Experience managing project budgets, schedules, and client relationships
  • Strong experience with Civil 3D, AutoCAD, or comparable civil engineering software
  • Working knowledge of QA/QC processes, engineering standards, and project delivery
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills
  • Interest in growing into a larger leadership role while continuing to contribute technically
  • Participation in professional engineering organizations is a plus
