Job description

NAMI Indiana is the state chapter for the National Alliance on Mental Illness that works to provide support, education, and advocacy to people and families impacted by mental illness. We work to end the stigma associated with mental health conditions so that people are more likely to seek help. We are able to do this work because of the committed and passionate staff and volunteers around Indiana.
NAMI Indiana is seeking a program and volunteer manager who will build on and expand our program, NAMI in the Lobby. This program's mission is to provide volunteer outreach in hospital emergency departments to help families with loved ones who need mental health treatment. The volunteers will provide emotional support, guide families on what to expect during a loved one's care and connect them to resources in the community. This is a full-time position with benefits and is part of a one-year grant.
This position will also support and manage other NAMI Indiana programs and volunteers as needed.
Responsibilities and Essential Duties
Outreach (25%)
  • Communicates with community members, professional groups, hospital systems, and other stakeholders about NAMI Indiana programming
  • Promotes NAMI Indiana programs, including but not limited to NAMI in the Lobby to community members as needed/requested and reports program data to the national NAMI office.
  • Assists in increasing awareness and utilization of NAMI Indiana programs statewide through outreach, presentations, and relationship building

Contracts Management (60%)
  • Lead the implementation and growth of assigned NAMI Indiana programs, including NAMI in the Lobby and other initiatives as assigned
  • Foster a positive and empowering volunteer experience through coaching, communication, and recognition
  • Expands program reach throughout the state by educating stakeholders, recruiting/screening new volunteers, and building relationships with community partners.
  • Other duties may include:
    • Coordinating volunteers throughout state with hospitals to staff NAMI Indiana resource tables
    • Communicating with and supporting NAMI Indiana affiliates on volunteer recruitment efforts
    • Collect, manage, and analyze program data
    • Oversees the recruitment and training of volunteers
    • Assist in developing educational and promotional materials to support program implementation
    • Collect and maintain program data

Additional Responsibilities (15%)
  • Represents NAMI Indiana at external meetings and conferences to increase awareness of NAMI programs and availability around the state (as both exhibitor and attendee)
  • Assist with special projects, new program development, and strategic initiatives as assigned

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or related experience
  • 3-5 years experience with event coordination or program management
  • Respectful of people affected by mental health conditions
  • Basic knowledge of mental illness, treatments, recovery, treatment systems and an interest in learning more
  • Comfortable interacting/communicating with a variety of people on a regular basis
  • Adaptable to a variety of web-based applications (including website management and social media management)
  • Ability to work some weeknights and weekends (flex time is available)
  • Has valid driver's license and is willing/able to travel around state as needed

Preferences:
  • Familiarity with NAMI mission and programs and participation in one or more NAMI education programs or support groups
  • Familiar with Indiana's mental health system

This position has a salary of $45,000 - $50,000 and is hybrid. NAMI Indiana full-time employee benefits include health, dental, and vision, accountable PTO and holiday schedule, employee assistance program, and 401k match.
