Job description

Planate Management Group (PMG) is a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, and Orlando, Florida USA with a technical support center in South East Asia and East Africa, that provides program management and facilities engineering services worldwide. Planate is a small business provider of planning, design, infrastructure management, technical consulting, engineering, and construction management services in support of the US Department of Defense (DOD) and its Service (Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps) missions, along with other US federal agencies, all over the world.

We are seeking a Junior Interior Designer to support The Long Beach Veterans Affairs Healthcare System (LBVAHCS). In this role, you will work within the Engineering Service Planning Section under the guidance of the VA Interior Designer, where you will develop objectives, manage tasks, and independently carry out assigned work. You will assist with space planning, project activations, budgeting, procurement package development, and coordination of delivery and installation, ensuring all work aligns with project requirements and established standards.

This is contingent upon the award of the contract. Project duration is expected to be one base year plus three option years.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with contracted Interior Designers, Interior Design Assistants, and VA Interior Designers to deliver design solutions for offices, conference rooms, exam rooms, treatment rooms, waiting areas, lobbies, break rooms, cafes, and support spaces.
  • Perform technical, administrative, and professional work supporting facility operations, safety, and interior environments that promote productivity and wellbeing.
  • Prepare detailed AutoCAD designs, plans, sketches, perspectives, color schemes, and presentation materials.
  • Analyze architectural drawings and develop Furniture, Fixture & Equipment (FF&E) plans, including layouts, materials, and traffic flow considerations.
  • Interpret and review architectural plans for compliance with VA standards, specifications, and the Technical Information Library (TIL).
  • Develop procurement packages including Statements of Work (SOW), technical specifications, drawings, cost estimates, bid sheets, and budgets.
  • Support financial tracking, vendor coordination, and delivery and installation schedules.
  • Maintain procurement documentation, schedules, logs, drawings, and market research using AutoCAD and Microsoft Office tools.
  • Maintain the Interior Design Resource Library and manage activation items such as furnishings, accessories, signage, equipment, and supplies.
  • Assist with installation oversight, move planning, scheduling, and project meetings.
  • Review wayfinding and installation plans, direct installation crews, and create and manage punch lists.
  • Apply working knowledge of ABAAS, VA Barrier Free Design Guide, VA Technical Information Library (TIL), ICC, OSHA, and NFPA standards.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders including Contracting, Logistics, Environmental Management Service, Office of Information Technology, Material Management, end users, and Engineering teams.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining activation schedules and support transition and move-in planning.
  • Help assess operations, identify workflow improvements, and support planning for adjacencies, flow, logistics, and infection control.
  • Document meeting notes and prepare design-related materials for stakeholder discussions.

Qualifications to be successful in the role:

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in architecture; interior design or any related field of study
  • At least one year of relevant experience
  • Familiarity with Patient Centered Care culture in healthcare environments, preferred.
  • Ability to review and interpret blueprints and specifications.
  • Skilled in free form drawing and scaled drawing for on-site measurements.
  • Knowledge in selection, specification, procurement, and placement of furnishings.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) required.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Project and Revit (preferred).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively with contractors, vendors, stakeholders, and management officials.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
