Role Summary

URBN is hiring a Junior Industrial Engineer to join our team in Bristol, PA! The Junior Industrial Engineer position supports the logistics organization through a variety of projects focused on enhancing productivity, maximizing throughput and ensuring workplace safety. The position will work closely with the Operations and Engineering team on developing standards, creating productivity measurements, and supporting process improvement initiatives. Candidate should be a motivated team player with a positive attitude and possess good organizational and communication skills. Individual should be able to function well in a multi-task environment with attention to detail, and willing to accept new and diverse assignments. Candidate must be able to work with all organizational levels including fellow-employees, customers, and management.  

Role Responsibilities
  • Support the development and maintenance of an accurate and effective Work Measurement System.  Ensure effective productivity measurements are established for identified functions in the distribution center through time and frequency studies.
  • Evaluate and revise work methods and workflow for all functions to ensure best method practices
  • Support the training of management and hourly workforce on productivity and work methods
  • Assist in the collection of data and cost justification of distribution center and capital budget projects
  • Assist in the design, selection and installation of material handling equipment incorporated into existing, new and expanded distribution centers
  • Assist the operation and engineering teams with process improvement initiatives
  • Work effectively with external resources (consultants and contractors) to ensure collaborative partnerships to meet business requirements
  • Must be able to work overtime as required 
  • All other duties assigned by Supervisor and/or Manager
Role Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering or related field
  • 0-2 years' experience in a direct to consumer, manufacturing, or retail distribution environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of work measurement methodologies and tools with an emphasis on time studies and standards creation
  • Experience with Manhattan's warehouse management and labor management suites
  • Knowledge in projects related to process design, work measurement, productivity improvement, cost reduction and project implementation
  • Experience with productivity tracking, data collection systems, and reporting software
  • Strong ability to gather, analyze and interpret information and develop, recommend, and implement solutions while maintaining budget
  • Excellent planning, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communication skills: ability to interact across a broad range of organizational levels and functions
  • Troubleshooting expertise and strong attention to detail
  • Must be flexible with schedule and able to work overtime in a fast-paced environment
  • Warehouse Management and Labor Management Systems  
  • Statistical Analysis, Operations Research and Process Improvement disciplines
  • Database, analytical software, and reporting suites including SQL
  • Operations and Performance management
  • MS Suite:  Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access, Visio

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time

  • Ability to manipulate a keyboard for extended periods of time

  • Climb, balance, kneel, crouch, or crawl

  • Ability to use a computer for extended periods of time

  • Lift freight and other objects of various shapes, sizes and weights up to 50 pounds

  • Operate warehouse equipment as required for position (i.e., forklift, pallet jack, cherry picker) which requires coordinated movements
