Southwestern Seminary, an entity of the Southern Baptist Convention, is a confessional institution. While the Seminary serves the larger evangelical Christian community, employees must embrace the values and standards the Seminary represents as it fulfills its mission of shaping Christian leaders within our denominational context.

Job Description

Job Summary

The Junior Graphic Designer creates visual concepts and art, using computer software or by hand, to communicate ideas that inspire, inform, and captivate consumers. The Junior Graphic Designer develops the overall layout and production design for applications such as advertisements, brochures, magazines, and reports.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work creatively in a team setting.
  • Design a variety of print and electronic collateral including flyers, invitations, booklets, banners, brochures, advertisements, presentations, web graphics, emails, and other items as needed.
  • Prioritize and manage projects, adhering to critical project timelines in a fast-paced environment, while working closely with photographers, editors, internal clients, and any related external vendor, such as printers.
  • Maintain the visual identity of Southwestern Seminary by creating graphics that effectively communicate its desired message and supports the overall communication strategies and goals, and brand guidelines of the seminary.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned and specific to area of responsibility.

Specific Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in graphic design, communications or a related field is preferred.
  • At least one year of print and digital design experience in a professional setting.
  • Online portfolio with relevant examples of print and digital branding work requested.
  • Successful completion of background check, MVR, and credit check may be required.
  • Must demonstrate strong design skills including page layout, typography, and information structure.
  • Professional level knowledge of industry standard design software and tools including: Adobe Creative Suite, Mac OS X, and preparing print-ready artwork.
  • Must be able to demonstrate an understanding of visual identity management and consistency.
  • Ability to translate conceptual ideas into effective design experiences.

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

  • Office Environment - May be required to reach above shoulder level for organizational tasks (e.g., retrieving files from upper shelves), bend, stoop, or reach to access lower or upper shelves.
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time and move about to the office to interact with other staff members.
  • Ability to use a computer and near-visual acuity in reading written documents and statistical data.
  • Exchanges information by telephone, computer, in writing and in person.
  • Ability to traverse campus for meetings and talk to groups while doing so.
  • Moderate Lifting - Occasionally transports 20-30lbs of parts and equipment across short distances by various means (e.g., carrying by hand, cart, golf cart) to accomplish tasks.
