Position Summary:

This position is part of the NBA Social & Digital Content team, which focuses on identifying, creating, distributing, and publishing compelling content across the NBA's social and digital platforms and to its many domestic and international partners around the world. As demand for NBA content continues to grow, this role offers the opportunity to work in a fast-paced, innovative, and highly collaborative environment, creating content that reaches fans globally.

The Senior Video Editor for Vertical Platforms is responsible for producing and finishing high-quality social first short-form and real-time video content that brings NBA stories, players, teams, and moments to life. This individual will serve as a senior creative and technical resource within the team, applying advanced storytelling, editing, compositing, audio, and color-correction skills to deliver polished and elevated content across NBA vertical platforms.

The ideal candidate is an accomplished editor and visual storyteller with strong understanding of the NBA, basketball culture, and the evolving social and digital media landscape. This individual should have experience creating content for vertical video platforms, including TikTok, Instagram Reels, Facebook Reels, YouTube Shorts, Snapchat, and other emerging platforms.

The Senior Video Editor for Vertical Platforms will also provide creative guidance on the overall look and feel of programs and content franchises, collaborate closely with platform owners and other members of the Social & Digital Content team, and help supervise, train, and develop more junior editorial staff.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Edit social-first short-form, vertical, and real-time video content that incorporates strong storytelling, pacing, music, and sound design.

  • Provide real-time game and event coverage by editing content for the NBA's nightly, weekly, and tentpole social and digital programming. This may include working days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

  • Collaborate with producers, content creators, publishers, designers, and other editors to identify and produce the most compelling moments from NBA games, events, and league storylines.

  • Finish and composite NBA programming using non-linear editing systems at a high level.

  • Create content for vertical video platforms, including TikTok, Instagram Reels, Facebook Reels, YouTube Shorts, Stories, Snapchat and other current or emerging platforms.

  • Consult and advise on the overall creative look and visual identity of programs, recurring content franchises, and special projects.

  • Provide creative input during content planning, preproduction, production, and postproduction processes.

  • Supervise, mentor, and train editors and other junior members of the editorial team.

  • Help establish and maintain editing standards, workflows, project organization practices, quality-control procedures, and delivery specifications.

  • Manage multiple projects and competing deadlines while maintaining a consistently high level of creative and technical quality.

  • Incorporate feedback from producers, senior leaders, league stakeholders, and platform partners efficiently and effectively.

  • Stay current on editing techniques, industry and platform trends, social storytelling formats, emerging technologies, and changes in fan-content consumption.

  • Assist with content publishing and additional Social & Digital Content team responsibilities, as needed.

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Extensive professional experience editing social-first short-form content for a sports brand, media organization, production company, or entertainment brand.

  • Advanced proficiency with professional non-linear editing systems, preferably Adobe Premiere Pro.

  • Strong proficiency in compositing, audio mixing and sweetening, color correction, media management, quality control, and final content delivery.

  • Demonstrated ability to produce highly polished video content involving narrative structure, character development, and a defined storyline.

  • Strong understanding of creating content for vertical platforms

  • Experience creating basketball or sports-related content.

  • Strong knowledge of the NBA and passion for the storylines surrounding its players, coaches, teams, statistics, standings, and league history.

  • Excellent understanding of basketball rules, terminology, statistics, analytics, and the history of the game.

  • Strong understanding of the NBA's social voice, visual identity, and audience.

  • Ability to provide creative direction and advise on the overall look and feel of programs and content franchises.

  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously with a precise and detail-oriented approach.

  • Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced environment while handling critical and time-sensitive assignments in a composed manner.

  • Excellent organizational, project-management, and communication skills.

  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively with producers, editors, designers, content creators, publishers, and cross-functional stakeholders.

  • Ability to receive, interpret, and execute feedback while maintaining established creative and technical standards.

  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays, based on the NBA calendar.

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Communications, Film, Television, Media Production, or a related field preferred.
