Job description

BTM Company is seeking an experienced Machine Tool Electrician to build and wire custom industrial automation equipment from electrical schematics. This is a hands-on role for an electrician who enjoys reading electrical schematics, wiring control panels, installing machine components, troubleshooting electrical systems, and supporting machine startup and commissioning. This position is intended for experienced industrial and machine tool electricians who build and wire custom manufacturing equipment. It is not a controls engineering, process engineering, software development, or electronics design position.

A Michigan Journeyman or Master Electrician License is preferred but not required. Candidates with extensive hands-on experience building, wiring, troubleshooting, and installing industrial machinery or custom automation equipment are strongly encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assemble, lay out, and wire industrial electrical control panels from electrical schematics.
  • Install and wire motors, drives, sensors, safety devices, and electrical components on custom industrial machinery.
  • Troubleshoot electrical wiring, control circuits, PLC-controlled equipment, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
  • Support machine build, electrical checkout, startup, commissioning, and customer acceptance testing.
  • Work closely with Controls Engineering and Mechanical Engineering to complete machine builds and resolve electrical issues.
  • Travel periodically to support customer installation, startup, troubleshooting, and service activities.
  • Bend, install, and route conduit, wireways, and cable management systems as required.

Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of hands-on experience wiring and building industrial machinery or automation equipment.
  • Experience assembling and wiring electrical control panels from electrical schematics.
  • Experience wiring complete industrial machines, including motors, sensors, drives, safety devices, and control components.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical wiring, control circuits, and industrial machinery.
  • Experience working with 24VDC and 480VAC industrial electrical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics without supervision.
  • Machine tool builder or machine tool electrician experience (preferred).
  • Journeyman or Master Electrician license (preferred).
  • Experience with industrial robots, automated assembly equipment, or custom machinery (preferred).
  • PLC troubleshooting experience (preferred - programming not required).

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Electrical apprenticeship, associate degree, or related technical training preferred
