Machine Builder
Hours: Monday through Friday 6:00 am to 2:20 pm with ½ hour for lunch
Status: Hourly/Full-time/Benefits eligible
Reports to: Production Supervisor
Apprentice to skilled applicants welcome.
Summary: Builds standard and custom abrasive blasting cabinets
DESCRIPTION OF WORK:
  • Assembles and installs standard equipment
  • Builds and installs electrical and electronic circuitry from schematics, detailed drawings or other instructions
  • Installs PLCs and other electronics
  • Uses machine tools, hand tools, multimeters, tow motor, overhead crane and forklifts as needed to accomplish the work
  • May assist with dismantling equipment after it has been tested to assist in the shipping process when necessary
  • Proactively works to gain knowledge of other departments, troubleshooting standard or project equipment from drawings or sketches with the mentoring and guidance of more senior or highly skilled technicians
  • Seeks out and implements continuous quality improvements
  • Actively participates in LEAN activities such as PDCA, A-3, and Root Cause Analysis activities
  • Collaborates with leads, supervisors, senior level and highly skilled technicians to develop solutions for customers, demonstrate the equipment’s operations, and find shipping solutions to best protect the equipment during transfer to distributors or customers
  • May attend seminars or other training to keep skills up to date
    • Some candidates may be eligible for formal apprenticeship classes as well
  • Demonstrates flexibility when asked to take on new things
SKILLS REQUIRED:
Apprenticeship level requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • High level of mechanical aptitude to learn and perform moderately complex mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical components to efficiently build our standard equipment
  • A working knowledge of basic machine tools
  • General knowledge of mechanics
  • Conscientious safety mindset
  • Great attention to detail
  • Computer literacy and ability/willingness to learn more
Skilled levels require:
  • Degree is helpful, but not required
    • Completion of Apprenticeship program or Associates degree will ultimately be required to progress in the role
    • Some level of formal education related to engineering or manufacturing is highly beneficial to start
  • Troubleshooting skills and experience required
  • NEC amp; UL508a knowledge a plus
  • Good working understanding of electricity and electrical components
  • Must be able to read and apply electrical schematics, mechanical and/or electrical drawings and ladder diagrams
  • Experience in operating a forklift and overhead crane may be required in some areas
  • Working knowledge of PLCs, programming, machinery sequences of operations, HMI, Ethernet/IP, relays, power supplies, electricity (480VAC, 240VAC, 120VAC, 24VDC)

JOB CONDITIONS: Job is inside, but area is not climate controlled as tractor trailer delivery doors are open periodically throughout the day. Must follow established safety rules to prevent injury to self and others. Protective equipment, assistance with lifting, and respirators required for some tasks; all PPE is provided by Clemco. Job requires nearly continual standing, moderate physical exertion, and continuous attention to detail. Lifting could be up to 50 pounds; help and appropriate protective equipment is available. Continuous mental and visual attention are required for safety and to maintain required tolerances.
