Job description

1st shift Machine Builder

Job Description

This role focuses on assembling, installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of industrial machinery both in-house and at customer sites. You will work in the Machine Department performing mechanical and electrical assembly, assisting with the fabrication of spare parts, and providing technical support to customers over the phone. The position requires a strong background in industrial machinery, maintenance, and repair, along with solid problem-solving skills and the ability to interpret technical documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble, install, maintain, and repair industrial machinery and equipment in the Machine Department and at customer locations.
  • Perform mechanical and electrical assembly of industrial equipment according to technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Assist in making and fitting spare parts to support ongoing maintenance and repair activities.
  • Travel to customer sites to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain a variety of industrial machinery, including overnight stays as required.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues with machinery to minimize downtime.
  • Collaborate with customers to provide technical support and training on equipment operation, maintenance, and best practices.
  • Provide clear feedback to the engineering team on recurring issues and recommend design or process improvements to enhance equipment reliability and streamline installations.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety protocols, industry standards, and company policies during all assembly, service, and field activities.
  • Manage and organize inventory of tools, parts, and supplies needed for service tasks, ensuring readiness for both shop and field work.
  • Document service activities, repairs, and parts usage accurately to support maintenance records and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Work closely with other machine builders and team members to coordinate projects and meet customer deadlines.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience building industrial equipment.
  • Technical degree or trade school certification in a relevant field such as industrial maintenance, mechatronics, or a related discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems used in industrial machinery.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Demonstrated experience in troubleshooting and diagnosing complex mechanical and electrical issues.
  • Solid electrical and mechanical aptitude, including the ability to work safely with industrial equipment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail and quality.
  • Effective communication and customer service skills for interacting with customers and internal teams.
  • Ability to work both in a team environment and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to customer sites, including overnight stays when required.
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record suitable for field service work.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with industrial machine assembly and maintenance in a shop environment.
  • Hands-on exposure to troubleshooting using electrical and mechanical schematics.
  • Comfort working with hydraulic and pneumatic systems in an industrial setting.
  • Previous experience providing technical support or training to customers.
  • Familiarity with continuous improvement practices and providing feedback to engineering teams.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage tools, parts, and service documentation effectively.

Work Environment

You will work in a recently upgraded facility equipped with 5 Bridgeport mills, 1 CNC Haas machine, 6 pin-making machines, and a dedicated team of 4 machine builders. The role follows a first-shift schedule, Monday through Friday, from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., providing a predictable daytime work pattern. The environment combines shop-based machine building and maintenance with field service at customer sites, requiring the use of standard industrial tools, equipment, and safety practices. You will operate in a hands-on, production-focused setting that emphasizes collaboration, technical precision, and adherence to safety procedures.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Elk Grove Village, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $32.00/hr.
