Job Title: Journeyman Laborer

Job Description

The journeyman laborer supports a variety of construction activities, including site preparation, material handling, crate building and uncrating, spotting, and general cleaning. This role works closely with other trades on an active construction site and uses hand and power tools to complete tasks safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities

• Assist with site preparation, including organizing work areas and helping set up materials and equipment.
• Perform spotting duties to support equipment operators and ensure safe movement of materials and vehicles on site.
• Handle, move, and stage construction materials as directed to keep work areas stocked and organized.
• Build crates and uncrate materials, tools, and equipment according to project needs and safety standards.
• Carry out general cleaning tasks on the construction site to maintain a safe and orderly work environment.
• Use hand and power tools to complete assigned tasks such as basic assembly, disassembly, and material processing.
• Support carpentry, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and demolition activities under direction of skilled tradespeople.
• Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of PPE and adherence to site orientation and guidelines.
• Communicate clearly with supervisors and coworkers to coordinate work and respond to changing site needs.
• Report any safety concerns, damaged equipment, or hazardous conditions promptly to site leadership.

Essential Skills

• Experience performing general labor duties on construction sites or in similar physical work environments.
• Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively.
• Mechanical aptitude and ability to understand how tools, equipment, and materials function in a construction setting.
• Familiarity supporting carpentry, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or demolition work.
• Capability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, carrying, bending, and working on your feet for extended periods.
• Strong awareness of safety practices and willingness to follow all site rules and procedures.
• Reliable attendance and ability to work assigned shifts in an outdoor construction environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Familiarity with basic carpentry tasks and working around carpentry crews.
• Exposure to HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or demolition activities on job sites.
• Comfort working with a variety of trades and adapting to changing priorities on an active construction site.
• Ability to read and follow simple instructions, labels, and safety signage.
• Strong teamwork skills and the ability to take direction from supervisors and experienced tradespeople.

Work Environment

This position is based on an active construction site that is outdoors and not weather controlled. You will work in varying weather conditions and should be prepared for exposure to the elements. Personal protective equipment is required, including a Type 2 safety helmet and steel-toed boots, while high-visibility vests and safety glasses are provided on site. Work involves regular use of hand and power tools, movement of materials, and close collaboration with multiple trades in a dynamic, fast-paced setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of La Mirada, CA.

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr.
