Graduate Assistant - Journal of International Women's Studies
Position Description
The Graduate Assistant (GA) will work 20 hours per week and receive up to 24 credits of tuition and student fee waivers: 9 for fall, 9 for spring and 6 for summer.
Overview
This assistantship builds students' skills and knowledge related to online publishing, editing, and copyediting careers, and builds managerial skills. This editorial assistant position deepens students' knowledge of Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, various feminist theories and praxis, and their intersection with multiple disciplines. Duties
  • Formatting articles for publication through our online publishing platform Bepress Virtual Commons
  • Copyediting of accepted articles
  • Maintenance of the JIWS' email account: responding to authors and reviewers regarding submissions of manuscripts for publication
  • Keeping track of article submissions through our online portal
  • Regular interaction with executive editor, Dr. Diana Fox, and associate editor, Dr. Kimberly Davis, and correspondence with international co-editors, reviewers, and authors
  • Making edits and updates to our website as needed

Preferred Qualifications
Qualifications
  • Excellent writing skills including knowledge of grammar and sentence structure
  • Capacity for warm professional engagement with the public-authors, reviewers, other editors
  • Highly organized and independent worker
  • Facility with Google drive or capacity to learn its use along with our publishing platform in virtual commons (training provided); basic html skills welcome but not required
  • Interest in feminist thought and women's issues globally Interest in a career in publishing, editing, writing, or teaching writing
  • Someone who can work 20 hours/week, divided among 3 or more days (between hours of 9am-6pm)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel software
