TOWN OF APEX
invites applications for the position of:
Stormwater Maintenance Worker
ABOUT THIS POSITION:
EXPECTED HIRING RANGE: $46,238.40 - 56,638.40
WORK LOCATION: 105-A Upchurch St, Apex, NC 27502 USA
SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday, 7am-3:30pm. On call rotation duty will be required.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
An employee in this position maintains stormwater infrastructure including drainage inlets, pipes, discharge outlets, drainage ditches and associated erosion control measures. Work includes using hand tools and mechanized equipment to clean and repair drainage pipes and structures for the Water Resources Department.
This position reports to Utility Maintenance Supervisor.
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
A SAMPLE OF THE ESSENTIALS:
  • Works with CCTV / jet truck cleaning, inspecting and maintaining storm drain lines and boxes using pressurized hoses, snakes, vacuums, and shovels.
  • Performs semi-skilled work operating power equipment and using hand tools to repair and construct storm drain boxes, pipes, outlet structuresand ditches.
  • Assures safe work around other crew members, electric and utility lines, pressurized gas lines, and other vehicles and property.
  • Assists the crew leader with the setting up of the job and controlling safety and traffic.
  • Loads materials and supplies for each job; ensures all equipment is in good working order.
  • Documents work activities through computerized work order system.
  • Performs minor preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
  • Performs work for other divisions to assist on special projects or situations such as weather, emergencies or staff shortage.
  • Attends schools and training to retain certifications and upgrade skills.
  • Performs related tasks as required.

WITH
  • Working knowledge of tools, materials and equipment used in stormwater maintenance work.
  • Working knowledge of municipal maintenance and construction practices.
  • Working knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work.
  • Working knowledge of environmental and regulatory requirements related to the work.
  • Working knowledge of the traffic laws, ordinances and regulations pertaining to use of tools and motorized equipment.
  • Working knowledge of motorized equipment operation of tampers, chippers, saws, backhoes, dump trucks etc.
  • Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time and to work in unfavorable conditions.
  • Ability to properly and safely operate tools and equipment used in stormwater maintenance work.
  • Skill in hand excavation around existing utilities and damage prevention.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with citizens, supervisors, and other employees.
  • Ability to utilize a variety of technology to document work activities and maintain work records.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the public and establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and other employees.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
Graduationfrom high school or GED and less than one year experience in drainagemaintenance and/or wetutility construction; or a combination of equivalent education andexperience.
NC CDL class B with tanker end required within 6 months of hire.
