The Department of Modern Languages and Classics at The University of Alabama invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Italian starting August 16, 2026. The successful applicant will serve as Italian Language Program Director with an area of specialization in comparative literature and translations studies.
Required qualifications include PhD in Italian Studies or related fields in hand by August 16, 2026; native or near-native fluency in Italian and English; record of excellence in teaching at all college levels of Italian language and culture in a comparative perspective; experience with current instructional technologies; commitment to curricular innovation, including the creation of translation courses; ability to work collegially and effectively with students and colleagues from diverse backgrounds. The ideal candidate will already have demonstrated a strong potential in research with an established list of publications appropriate for the level.
