What Does an IT Manager Do?

As an IT manager, you oversee the information technology aspects of a company. Your job duties include supervising IT staff, working with product vendors, and managing the maintenance and upgrades of the company's hardware and software systems. Your responsibilities are the management and the security of the company’s IT infrastructure. Depending on your company’s size, you coordinate with the internal software development team or with outside vendors to find cost-effective solutions for the company’s IT needs, based on functionality and scalability.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an IT Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as an IT Manager, you need a solid background in information technology, project management, and leadership, often supported by a bachelor’s degree in IT or related fields. Familiarity with IT infrastructure, network administration, security protocols, and certifications like CompTIA, PMP, or ITIL are typically essential. Strong communication, problem-solving, and team leadership skills help IT Managers coordinate teams and translate technical information for non-technical stakeholders. These skills are crucial to ensure efficient IT operations, effective project delivery, and alignment of technology initiatives with business goals.

How does an IT Manager typically collaborate with other departments within an organization?

IT Managers play a crucial role in bridging the gap between technical teams and other business units. They regularly meet with department heads to understand specific technology needs, coordinate on project timelines, and ensure that IT solutions align with organizational goals. Effective communication and collaboration are key, as IT Managers often lead cross-functional projects, provide technical guidance, and help troubleshoot issues that impact multiple departments. This collaborative approach ensures technology initiatives support overall business strategy and operational efficiency.

Job description

This position is hybrid and based on-site in the Greater Seattle Area.

SUMMARY

Sono Bello is seeking an IT Project Coordinator to serve as the operational backbone of our IT department's project delivery efforts. This role is responsible for coordinating the full lifecycle of IT initiatives across a multi-site healthcare environment-from clinic openings, relocations, and closures to infrastructure rollouts, ISP circuit management, and computer hardware refresh programs. The IT Project Coordinator ensures that multiple concurrent workstreams are tracked, communicated, and delivered on time by aligning internal IT teams, field operations, and external vendors around shared timelines and accountabilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinates end-to-end planning and execution of IT projects including clinic openings, moves, and closures, ensuring all technology dependencies are met on schedule
  • Manages infrastructure and network rollout projects including Meraki deployments, ISP circuit provisioning and management, and Azure-related initiatives in partnership with IT engineering staff
  • Oversees computer hardware refresh programs for clinic locations, including ordering equipment, managing inventory counts, coordinating staging and deployment scheduling, and maintaining accurate asset records
  • Maintains a consolidated view of all in-flight IT projects using Smartsheet, Excel, and FreshService, ensuring task owners, timelines, and dependencies are clearly documented and up to date
  • Drives cross-functional coordination between IT, clinic operations, and field teams, serving as the central point of contact for project status and escalation
  • Manages external vendor and ISP relationships, holding partners accountable to delivery commitments and escalating issues as needed to ensure timelines are met
  • Produces clear, consistent project status updates and reports for the IT Manager and relevant stakeholders
  • Identifies scheduling conflicts, resource constraints, or delivery risks early and communicates proactively to minimize impact
  • Documents project processes, workflows, and outcomes to support audit readiness and repeatability across similar future projects
  • Supports IT operational planning activities and contributes to the development of project intake and prioritization processes

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS

  • 2-3 years of experience in IT project coordination, IT operations support, or a related role
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and workstreams in a fast-paced, multi-site environment
  • Proficiency with project tracking and collaboration tools including Smartsheet, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Teams, and FreshService or similar ticketing platforms
  • Strong organizational skills with a detail-oriented approach to tracking tasks, timelines, and deliverables across multiple teams
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to coordinate effectively across IT staff, vendors, field operations, and clinic leadership
  • Experience coordinating with ISPs or telecom vendors preferred; familiarity with circuit provisioning processes is a plus
  • Working knowledge of networking concepts and computer hardware is a plus
  • Experience in healthcare, retail, or other regulated multi-site environments preferred
  • PMP, CAPM, or equivalent project management certification is a plus
