The University of Saint Mary is a Roman Catholic, liberal arts university located in Leavenworth, Kansas, just 25 minutes away from Kansas City. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and execute the University's information technology strategy in alignment with institutional goals and strategic priorities.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership on technology opportunities, risks, and emerging trends.
  • Lead strategic and operational planning for Information Technology services and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with academic and administrative leaders to identify technology solutions that enhance teaching, learning, research, and business operations.
  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies, industry best practices, and innovative solutions that support institutional success.

Enterprise Systems & Technology Management

  • Direct the full lifecycle management of enterprise applications, including evaluation, selection, implementation, maintenance, upgrades, integrations, and retirement.
  • Ensure technology systems remain secure, reliable, scalable, documented, and aligned with business requirements.
  • Oversee endpoint management, device lifecycle management, and enterprise deployment standards.
  • Establish and maintain technology governance, standards, policies, and procedures.

IT Service Management & Operations

  • Lead IT support operations with a focus on service excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Provide leadership for incident, problem, request, change, and knowledge management processes.
  • Oversee IT service management and endpoint management platforms, ensuring efficient service delivery and operational effectiveness.
  • Develop and monitor service metrics, dashboards, customer satisfaction data, and operational reporting to support informed decision-making.
  • Lead maintenance planning and outage communications, ensuring timely and customer-focused messaging.

Leadership & Administration

  • Recruit, hire, develop, mentor, and evaluate Information Technology staff while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and professional growth.
  • Manage departmental operating and capital budgets, ensuring responsible stewardship of institutional resources.
  • Lead cross-functional technology initiatives, balancing priorities, timelines, financial planning, and stakeholder expectations.
  • Build collaborative partnerships with faculty, staff, students, executive leadership, and external vendors.

Governance, Risk & Compliance

  • Assist in the development, implementation, and enforcement of University technology policies and standards.
  • Support disaster recovery, business continuity, audit, cybersecurity, and regulatory compliance initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and institutional regulations, including FERPA, HIPAA, and information security best practices.
  • Consult with external partners and technology experts to identify emerging risks and opportunities.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrated leadership experience developing high-performing teams and fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Strong knowledge of enterprise applications, endpoint management, device lifecycle management, and modern IT administration practices.
  • Experience leading IT service management initiatives and business process improvements using established frameworks (such as ITIL).
  • Ability to develop operational metrics, dashboards, and executive-level reports that support strategic decision-making.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and build collaborative relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Understanding of cybersecurity principles, risk management, disaster recovery, business continuity planning, and regulatory compliance.
  • Knowledge of FERPA, HIPAA, and other applicable privacy and security standards.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree, Masters preferred
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a Director or Manager role, preferably in higher education or not-for-profit
  • Experienced in managing projects and implementing processes
  • Highly organized and detail oriented
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including listening skills
  • Strong Analytical skills, Microsoft Office skills, Advanced Excel
  • Ability to work across departments on projects and committees
