About the Role:

Advance Concrete is looking for an Assistant Controller to support accounting, payroll, and administrative operations. It also administers employee benefits, supports compliance, and provides oversight to the office manager, requiring a high degree of accuracy and discretion across all entities.

 

Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Finance Operations

  • Daily banking activities, including clearing ACH transactions
  • Preparation of weekly cash position spreadsheets
  • Full-cycle accounts payable for three companies
  • Vendor payment inquiries and issue resolution
  • Inventory-related AP processing and reconciliations
  • Large and complex AP reconciliations
  • Daily receipt and processing of cash AR receipts

Month-End & Financial Close Support

· Credit card receipt collection and coding, setting up journal entries

· Payroll accrual calculations, setting up journal entries

· Repair and maintenance amortization, setting up journal entries

· Prepaid expense tracking and amortization, setting up journal entries

· Management of other receivables, setting up journal entries

Payroll & Tax Compliance

· Processing and oversight of three payrolls, including multi-state payroll for one

· Preparation and filing of quarterly payroll tax reports

· Reporting and compliance with the IRS, NC Department of Revenue, and Employment Security Commission
 

Human Resources & Benefits Administration

· Employee status verifications (DSS, benefits, child support)

· Benefits administration, including open enrollment and ongoing processing

· Coordination of random drug screening

· Administration and oversight of employee benefits programs

· Some management of the company 401(k) plan,

Compliance, Risk & Operations Support

· Maintaining DOT files and compliance for company drivers, (transitioning over to office manager)

· Supporting management and coordination of company drivers

· Oversight and support of the office manager
 

Year-End & Regulatory Responsibilities

· Preparation and distribution of W-2s

· Preparation and filing of 1099s
 

 

Ideal Qualifications & Skills:

  • 5+ years of accounting experience including AP, payroll, and month-end close support (construction or multi-entity environment preferred).
  • Experience processing payroll for multiple entities, including multi-state payroll, and filing payroll taxes.
  • Experience with benefits administration, open enrollment, and 401(k) plans.
  • Strong reconciliation skills and comfort with high transaction volume.
  • Proficiency with accounting software and strong spreadsheet skills.
  • High level of accuracy, organization, and discretion with confidential information.
