Job description

Job Title: Inventory ClerkJob Description

This Inventory Clerk role is responsible for coordinating freight and product flow to meet customer demands while maintaining accurate inventory records and system data. The position requires extensive use of internal and external computer systems to manage shipping, receiving, and inventory transactions in a warehouse or manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities
  • Review upcoming shipping requirements and research the organization’s ability to deliver products as requested by customers.
  • Inform customers via their web portals of required truck space in advance of shipping dates, maintaining accuracy to avoid chargebacks for excess or shortfall situations.
  • Communicate proactively with customers when potential shipping or capacity issues arise.
  • Determine appropriate shipping containers and pallet sizes to prevent product damage during transit.
  • Calculate floor space requirements for each customer shipment and communicate these needs clearly.
  • Inform dock and picking staff of required containers and special shipping instructions in advance to ensure timely and accurate shipments.
  • Prepare and print or write paperwork for outside vendor activities and forward documents to the shipping dock.
  • Process paperwork received from outside service vendors to ensure accurate shipping and inventory records.
  • Develop pick lists and assign staging areas for pickers and dock staff to pull and stage products efficiently.
  • Review current inventory locations, schedules from outside service vendors for returning product, and work-in-process at other facilities, then communicate plans and required activities to relevant personnel or vendors.
  • Determine whether products are domestic or international based on customer codes and assign appropriate containers or skids.
  • Communicate container and skid requirements to dock employees to ensure compliance with customer and shipping specifications.
  • Print all required shipping documentation, including packing slips, bar codes, waybills, and any additional international paperwork.
  • Attach or place documentation on or inside boxes, containers, or pallets as needed to meet shipment requirements.
  • Write special shipping instructions (OE Pack instructions) when needed to outline unique customer or shipment requirements.
  • Communicate with internal staff to identify and resolve blocked shipments, including understanding internal processes and system requirements to unblock sales orders and address quality control issues.
  • Process outside service vendor paperwork to ensure parts are correctly placed into inventory.
  • Perform inventory transactions to receive parts into appropriate inventory locations and transfer or combine parts between locations as needed.
  • Conduct cycle counts as required to ensure accurate inventory levels and reconcile discrepancies.
Essential Skills
  • Prior experience working as an inventory clerk or in a shipping clerk or receiving clerk role in a warehouse or manufacturing setting.
  • Experience monitoring and tracking inventory levels to support accurate stock management.
  • Experience coordinating and communicating shipment updates with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency using email, particularly Outlook, for communication.
  • Proficiency using Excel, including working with formulas, opening and managing multiple tabs, and adding or deleting columns and rows.
  • Ability to work extensively with internal and external computer systems to manage inventory and shipping data accurately.
  • Strong attention to detail to prevent shipping errors, inventory inaccuracies, and chargebacks.
  • Effective communication skills to coordinate with dock staff, pickers, internal personnel, customers, and outside service vendors.
  • Ability to interpret customer codes and shipping requirements, including domestic and international shipment distinctions.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience using Epicor (Epicore) or similar enterprise resource planning (ERP) software is a plus.
  • Familiarity with international shipping documentation and requirements is beneficial.
  • Ability to write clear special shipping instructions (OE Pack instructions) when required.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced warehouse or manufacturing environment with frequent coordination between multiple teams.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple shipments, documents, and inventory transactions simultaneously.
Work Environment

This position is fully onsite in a warehouse or manufacturing environment. Standard hours are Monday through Friday from 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with 10-hour shifts. There may be occasional additional 4–5 hour shifts on Saturdays based on business needs; these will be communicated in advance. Typical weekly hours range from approximately 50 to 55 hours. The role involves working closely with dock staff, pickers, and other operations personnel, using computer systems, printers, and standard warehouse equipment to manage shipments and inventory. Steel-toed shoes are required as part of the safety attire in this environment.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $24.00/hr.
