Interoperability Project Manager information

What is an interoperability project manager?

An Interoperability Project Manager is responsible for overseeing projects that enable different systems, organizations, or technologies to work together effectively, especially in sectors like healthcare, finance, or IT. They coordinate teams, manage timelines, and ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations to facilitate seamless information exchange. This role requires a strong understanding of both technical and business requirements, as well as excellent communication and project management skills. Interoperability Project Managers play a key role in improving data sharing, system integration, and overall organizational efficiency.

How does an interoperability project manager typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during a project?

As an Interoperability Project Manager, you will regularly coordinate with cross-functional teams such as IT, clinical staff, software developers, and external vendors to ensure seamless data exchange between systems. This involves facilitating meetings, clarifying technical requirements, and resolving integration issues as they arise. Strong communication and leadership skills are essential, as you will act as a bridge between technical and non-technical stakeholders, ensuring that project goals are clearly understood and met. The role requires balancing multiple priorities and adapting to evolving project scopes, making teamwork and flexibility crucial for success.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an interoperability project manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Interoperability Project Manager, you need a solid background in project management, healthcare IT standards (like HL7 and FHIR), and a relevant degree, often supported by PMP or similar certification. Familiarity with interface engines, EHR systems, and data exchange protocols is crucial for managing technical integration projects. Strong leadership, stakeholder communication, and problem-solving skills help you coordinate diverse teams and navigate complex requirements. These competencies are essential for ensuring seamless data exchange, regulatory compliance, and project success in healthcare IT environments.

What is the difference between Interoperability Project Manager vs Healthcare IT Project Coordinator?

Job description

Job Summary
Vertiv is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer - Power to lead the electrical architecture and system integration of next-generation rack- and row-based infrastructure solutions supporting high-density compute and AI-driven data center applications.
In this role, you will own the electrical design and integration strategy across complex systems-including racks, power distribution, and thermal systems-ensuring scalable, compliant, and high-performance designs from concept through production.
You will work cross-functionally with global engineering, product management, procurement, and manufacturing teams, playing a key role in driving innovation, interoperability, and system-level performance across New Product Development (NPD) programs and customer solutions.
Why This Role is Exciting
  • Direct impact on next-generation data center and AI infrastructure solutions
  • Ownership of system-level electrical architecture, not just component design
  • Work across electrical, mechanical, thermal, and controls integration challenges
  • High visibility within global NPD programs and customer-facing solutions
  • Opportunity to shape and influence electrical design standards and best practices at Vertiv

Key Responsibilities
1. Electrical Architecture & System Integration
  • Own the electrical architecture for rack- and row-based systems, including PDUs, containment systems, and integrated solutions
  • Define and manage interfaces between electrical, mechanical, thermal, and control subsystems
  • Ensure system-level integration meets requirements for performance, safety, and regulatory compliance
  • Evaluate and ensure electrical compatibility, interoperability, and integration across system components

2. Electrical Design & Analysis
  • Develop electrical system designs, including:
    • Single-line and three-line schematics
    • Power distribution and load calculations
    • Grounding and bonding systems
    • Monitoring and control architectures
  • Perform short-circuit, fault, and coordination analysis
  • Select and specify electrical components and assemblies aligned with NPD and project requirements
  • Ensure compliance with NEC, UL/IEC 62368-1, IEC 60364, IEC 61000, EN 55032, and related standards

3. Cross-Functional Leadership
  • Lead and contribute to cross-functional design reviews
  • Collaborate with product management, mechanical/thermal engineering, and manufacturing teams
  • Provide engineering guidance during factory integration, testing, and production
  • Mentor and support development of junior engineers

4. Continuous Improvement & Standards
  • Contribute to and refine Vertiv's electrical design standards and "playbook"
  • Drive improvements in system interoperability, serviceability, manufacturability, and scalability
  • Help adapt and operationalize internal guidelines for use in NPD and customer projects
  • Stay current on emerging technologies and best practices in electrical design and data center infrastructure

5. Customer & Business Support
  • Support pre-sales activities, including solution development, quotations, and technical presentations
  • Partner with procurement and suppliers on component selection and sourcing
  • Provide technical support to manufacturing, testing, and field teams
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects while balancing technical depth and execution timelines

Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or equivalent
  • 7+ years of experience in electrical design for complex systems or NPD
  • Strong understanding of electrical safety, EMC, and regulatory standards
  • Experience with power system design, distribution, and system integration
  • Ability to interpret and create electrical drawings, schematics, and specifications
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to take ownership and drive results

Preferred
  • Experience in data center infrastructure, power systems, or integrated platforms
  • Master's degree or Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Familiarity with tools such as Creo, Revit, AutoCAD (3D routing/modeling)
  • Experience with factory integration, system validation, or customer deployments
  • Knowledge of short-circuit and coordination studies

What We're Looking For
  • A systems thinker who can operate at both architecture and detailed design levels
  • A hands-on engineer who thrives in fast-paced, multidisciplinary environments
  • Someone who takes ownership, drives decisions, and delivers results
  • A collaborator who can influence across engineering, product, and operations teams
