Description
The ATC Training Scenario Scripter is an entry-to-mid-level technical role responsible for supporting the development, modification, validation, and maintenance of Air Traffic Control (ATC) training scenarios for the FAA Tower Simulation System Enhancement 2 (TSS E2). Working under the direction of a senior ATC Training Scenario Developer, this individual transforms operational concepts, training objectives, and FAA-provided scripts into executable simulation scenarios.
This position focuses on implementing the senior Scenario Developer's vision by configuring aircraft, vehicles, weather, communications, operational events, and instructor actions within the simulation environment. The ideal candidate has a passion for aviation, simulation, game development, or flight simulation and enjoys creating realistic operational experiences.
Key Responsibilities
Scenario Development:
  • Build and modify ATC training scenarios using simulation authoring tools under the guidance of senior Scenario Developers.
  • Configure aircraft, ground vehicles, weather, runway configurations, communications, and operational events.
  • Implement traffic flows and sequencing based on FAA-provided scripts and training objectives.
  • Configure instructor-triggered events including emergencies, equipment failures, runway closures, and abnormal operations.
  • Support development of scenarios for Local Control (LC), Ground Control (GC), Flight Data (FD), Clearance Delivery (CD), Supervisor, and automated controller positions.
Scenario Scripting:
  • Configure aircraft routes, schedules, callsigns, aircraft types, and behavioral parameters.
  • Build scenario timelines, event triggers, conditional logic, and scripted sequences.
  • Configure weather transitions, visibility, runway changes, and operational conditions.
  • Implement instructor controls and configurable scenario options.
  • Support rapid modification of existing scenarios in response to customer requests.
Quality Assurance Support:
  • Execute scenarios to verify proper sequencing, timing, and operational behavior.
  • Identify and correct scripting errors, traffic conflicts, communication issues, and logic defects.
  • Participate in scenario reviews with senior developers and subject matter experts.
  • Document test results and support scenario validation activities.
Repository & Configuration Support:
  • Maintain scenario files within the program configuration management system.
  • Follow version control procedures for all scenario updates.
  • Maintain organized documentation of scenario configurations and revisions.
  • Support packaging and release of approved scenarios.
Collaboration:
  • Work closely with senior Scenario Developers, VDB Developers, software engineers, and systems engineers.
  • Participate in Agile sprint planning, backlog refinement, and technical reviews.
  • Support rapid implementation of scenario updates and demonstration requests.

Qualifications
Required Education:
  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor's degree in one of the following fields:
    • Aviation
    • Computer Science
    • Software Engineering
    • Game Development
    • Simulation Technology
    • Aerospace Science
    • Instructional Design
    • A related technical discipline
  • An Associate's degree, technical certification, military experience, strong portfolio, or equivalent practical experience may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor's degree.
Required Experience:
  • Professional experience is preferred but not required. Ideal candidates will demonstrate knowledge, coursework, internships, military experience, or personal project work in one or more of the following areas:
    • Flight simulation or air traffic control simulation
    • Game development or gameplay scripting
    • Mission design or scenario creation
    • Software scripting or automation
    • Aviation operations or flight planning
    • Simulation authoring tools or game engines
  • A strong portfolio, GitHub repository, published flight simulation modifications, or demonstrated technical ability may be considered in lieu of professional experience.
Required Clearance:
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
Preferred Experience:
  • Microsoft Flight Simulator, X-Plane, Prepar3D, or DCS mission or scenery development
  • Unreal Engine or Unity development
  • Game scripting, mission design, or mod development
  • Aviation knowledge including airport operations and ATC procedures
  • Familiarity with FAA phraseology and controller operations
  • Experience with configuration management and version control systems
  • Experience working in Agile software development environments

  • Strong interest in aviation, simulation, and interactive training systems
  • Ability to translate operational concepts into executable simulation scenarios
  • Basic scripting or programming experience
