NBC Connecticut Internships provide students with real world experience and exposure to working in the television news industry.ย Internships at NBC Connecticut are paid and do not require course credit.ย 

NBC Connecticut is looking for a team player who is looking to take on the experiences in allย facetsย of the Newsroom.ย ย This is an opportunity to haveย hands-onย experience in every capacity of assigning, gathering,ย telling,ย and producing news stories.ย 

During the first half of the academicย year,ย you will haveย hands-onย experienceย in theย following areas: asย aย reporter,ย asย aย producer, on the assignmentย desk, andย producing social videos.ย ย This will allow youย toย have the opportunity to be part of each of our newsroom teams.ย 

For the spring, you will be assigned to one of those areas based on our business needs, yourย experience,ย and yourย interests.ย 

  • Participate in daily planning meetings.ย Contribute ideas for news programming based on the NBC Connecticut News Strategy.ย 

  • Be present inย the controlย room duringย the newsย program toย observeย communication among the producer,ย director,ย and production personnel.ย 

  • Useย websitesย and social media tools toย monitorย and report news, find sources andย leadsย forย stories.ย Monitor mainstream and social media sites for story ideas and competitive intelligence.ย 

  • Write assigned segments, which may include digital newscastsย 

  • Make beat checks and enter current and future news assignments into systemย 

  • Make and answer phone callsย 

  • Help coordinate guests for newscastsย 

  • Writingย articles for our website using AP Style and formattingย 

  • Work with reporters,ย meteorologistsย and other members of the news team to prepare web articlesย 

  • Cut video from newscasts and add proper metadata to post them on social media and our website/appย 

  • Generate ideas for stories and articles, with a focus on Google Trends, SEOย strategyย and current eventsย 

  • Participate in brainstorming sessions forย new ideasย for content and platformsย 

  • Keep up on social media trends and pitch ideas on how our newsroom can incorporateย new ideasย into our strategyย 

Qualifications
  • Must be actively enrolled in a degree-granting program at an accredited institution during the length of the program and be able to provide documentation to confirm your degree progressย 

  • Current class standing of sophomore or above (30 credits)ย 

  • Mustย be authorized toย work in the United States without visa sponsorship by NBCUniversalย 

  • Must be willing to work at the station in West Hartford, CTย 

Desired Characteristicsย 

  • Pursuing a major in Journalism, Communications, or similar subjectย 

  • Familiarity with Premiere and Photoshopย 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and creative skillsย 

  • Exceptional project management, organizational and presentation skillsย 

  • Experience using TikTok, Facebook, Instagramย 

  • Prior use of WordPress preferred but notย requiredย 

  • Interest in the television,ย streamingย or digital industriesย 

  • Knowledge of AP Style and newswritingย 

  • Bilingual skillsย a plusย - Spanish/Englishย ย
