Job description

Photography Internship- St. Louis Post-Dispatch
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch is seeking a paid photo/video intern, for the fall and spring, to help us with news and sports coverage, as well as to tell dynamic stories. The deadline to apply is September 4, 2026.
You'll have the chance to cover everything from breaking news to college and professional sports (including NHL, MLS and major college games). You'll also handle features and portraits. We want someone who can craft both stunning still images and engaging videos. You'll be expected to work with urgency and immediacy for our digital platforms, but we'll also provide the opportunity for you to develop visual stories.
Our visual team members work closely together and push one another. Winners of the Pulitzer Prize, the Robert F. Kennedy Award and numerous NPPA awards are on our current staff.
We provide you with good quality camera gear (two Canon R3 bodies and R lenses), a PC computer, a mobile internet hot spot and a shared closet full of pool lenses.
Some of the skills that will support your success here are:
  • An excitement about finding and telling stories visually, including single photos as well as short stories
  • A keen interest in how you see and compose photos
  • Technical proficiency and interest in how that improves visual storytelling
  • An audience-first mindset

Greater St. Louis is a diverse region with 2.8 million residents. It is home to Fortune 500 companies, two major research universities, three pro sports teams and eclectic, vibrant neighborhoods. There are unlimited stories to tell here, and we want your help to bring those to life. This is an opportunity to hone your visual skills, develop new ones and build your portfolio.
The internship will run from October through the end of March. When applying, please include a link to an online portfolio that demonstrates your visual skills. We'd like to see your work in as many areas as you have experience in - news, features, sports, portraits, lighting, storytelling.
