Connecting Visitors to the Science Centerโ€™s Mission

At the Saint Louis Science Center our mission is to ensure everyone is curious and engaged in science. We seek to make science fun through informal, interactive learning experiences. We are a team of educators, entertainers, and science enthusiasts! Our expert team, educational, and corporate partners all work together to make the Saint Louis Science Center one of the top 5 science museums in the country.


The James S. McDonnell Planetarium has been St. Louis' Gateway to the Stars for over 60 years. With the help of our world-class hybrid projection system, you will perform live, interactive planetarium shows with a multidisciplinary team of informal educators. Hone your skills as a science communicator and encourage visitors of all ages to look up!



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Present live, interactive programs in the James S. McDonnell Planetarium
  • Deliver informal science demonstrations and engage guests in gallery experiences
  • Support the daily operations of the Planetarium, including opening and closing procedures, ticket taking, and cleaning
  • Facilitate after-hours events in the Planetarium, including telescope Star Parties, laser shows, and external rentals

OTHER DUTIES

  • Flexible schedule and the ability to work weekends, holidays, and evenings are required to accommodate the needs of our guests
  • Must be able to speak to crowds in excess of 150 people for at least 45 minutes
  • Ability to see in low light situations


Requirements:
  • HS diploma or equivalent required. College coursework in relevant Science, Informal Education, or Museum Studies preferred.
  • 1 year of working experience is required; science education or cultural institution experience a plus.
  • Experience with observational astronomy and/or telescope operation is a plus.
  • National Association for Interpretation Training is a plus.
