Job description

The North Brooklyn Development Corporation is looking for After School Counselors for the Empire After School Program , Greenpoint in Brooklyn. We are looking for energetic and passionate College Students that are going to lead and supervise a group of after school participants attending grades K-5.

 ·         The after school counselor will create and implement creative activities that address the physical, emotional, social, and intellectual development of elementary after school participants with which they work. 

·         Creating and implementing daily activities and events for the after school participants based on their interests and with their involvement;

·         Supervising of a group of max 20 elementary who attend the after school during all activities,

·         Working directly with the elementary age participants in all of their daily activities (i.e. academics, STEM, tutoring, arts, dance, sports, etc.);

·         Assisting teachers, activity specialists, and supervisors with participant's physical, emotional, social, and intellectual development;

·         Modeling positive behavior for participants;

·         Engaging participants in dialogue (one-to-one and group discussions) around topics of concern for their age group / developmental stage;

·         Assisting in the completion of homework, school assignments and research;

·         Maintaining of classroom binders/supplies;

·         Attending staff training and professional development training;

·         Reporting any incident, injury or illness to the Program Coordinator,

·         Ensuring that the student who is self-administering medicine, such as an asthma pump or epi-pen, at the time he or she arrives to the after school has the required medication on every day of attendance;

·         Assisting after school participants to the bathroom;

·         Supervising after school participants during snack and dismissal;

·         Providing enforcement of rules and expectations described in the participant's disciplinary policy;

·         Assisting group members to relate well to each other and persons in authority;
