The Team

Alvarez & Marsal’s Restructuring Tax Services (“RTS”) is a team of specialized tax professionals who advise debtors, creditors, and alternative parties on non-routine tax matters in bankruptcy and out-of-court restructurings. A&M's RTS practice partners with financially stressed and distressed companies, advisors, and creditors to protect and unlock tax attribute value, liquidity, and long-term enterprise value across every stage of the restructuring process.

RTS is seeking a highly motivated student, preferably with a background in accounting, finance, or other related analytical fields for a full-time internship position in our RTS practice. We are seeking a student interested in federal and state tax, and corporate consulting.

As a Restructuring Tax Services intern, you will have the opportunity to work alongside professionals with the common goal of supporting businesses in preserving and creating value, impacting the world’s most recognized organizations and their people.

On a typical engagement, you will be working closely with several members of the RTS team. As of day one, you will serve as a core member of the practice and the group will depend on your ability to effectively handle pressure in a fast paced, deeply collaborative team environment. Your work will directly contribute to the guidance delivered to senior management and other external parties to the restructuring process.

How you will contribute

As a member of the A&M Restructuring Tax Services team, you will:

  • Support the team in advising public and private companies on restructuring tax issues including, but not limited to, cancellation of debt income (CODI), significant debt modifications, consolidated attribute reduction, in-court vs. out-of-court restructuring arrangements, cash tax modeling, and Section 382 limitations
  • Conduct research and analysis on relevant tax code sections & regulations
  • Prepare & circulate summaries of relevant financial information on public and private companies
  • Build and maintain financial models & management presentations
  • Support general business development as the practice continues to grow

Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or other related analytical fields
  • Pursuing an Advanced Degree / Certification required, or steps have been taken to earn degree/certification: CPA, MST, MAcc, JD or LLM
  • Strong interest in taxation and financial restructuring (e.g., Chapter 11 proceedings)
  • High motivation to learn and grow
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, time-sensitive environment
  • Detail-oriented, resourceful, and strong quantitative skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to articulate complex information
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word Foundational understanding of financial statements, fixed-income securities, and corporate taxation preferred
  • Must be authorized to work in the US without the need for employment-based sponsorship now or in the future.  A&M will not sponsor applicants for US work visa status for this role
