What is an internship placement?

An internship placement is a temporary work experience provided by an organization to students or recent graduates. It allows individuals to gain practical skills, industry knowledge, and professional networking opportunities in their chosen field. Internship placements can be paid or unpaid and typically last from a few weeks to several months. These opportunities help participants bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world employment, enhancing their resumes and career prospects.

What types of projects or tasks can I expect to work on during an internship placement?

During an internship placement, you can typically expect to engage in a variety of hands-on projects and support tasks relevant to your field of study. These may include assisting with research, participating in team meetings, managing administrative duties, or contributing to ongoing organizational projects. Interns often collaborate closely with experienced professionals, gaining exposure to industry practices and workflows. This experience is designed to build practical skills, enhance your resume, and provide valuable networking opportunities for future career growth.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an internship placement coordinator, and why are they important?

To excel as an Internship Placement Coordinator, you need strong organizational skills, a background in career services or education, and experience supporting student development. Familiarity with career management platforms, CRM systems, and job-matching software is typically required. Excellent communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving abilities help you connect students with suitable opportunities and foster employer partnerships. These competencies ensure effective placement processes, positive student experiences, and successful collaboration with industry partners.

Thank you for your interest in completing your master's-level internship with the Mental Health Center of Greater Manchester (MHCGM).

At this time, we are not accepting applications for specific Spring 2027 internship placements. Instead, we are accepting applications for our Spring 2027 Master's-Level Internship Waitlist.

Students who join the waitlist will be contacted once internship opportunities and participating departments for the Spring 2027 semester have been finalized. At that time, eligible applicants will receive additional information about available placements and the next steps in the application process.

Requirements

 To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be actively enrolled in an accredited master's degree program in Social Work, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, or a related behavioral health field.
  • Be eligible to complete a clinical internship during the Spring 2027 semester.
  • Meet all onboarding requirements, including any required background checks, health screenings, and school affiliation agreements.

We appreciate your interest in MHCGM and look forward to connecting with you when Spring 2027 internship opportunities become available.
