What Are My Responsibilities as a Sales Intern at Steel Dynamics Structural & Rail Division?

  • Manage a variety of customer service functions, including responding to customer inquiries and emails in a timely and professional manner.
  • Support Inside Sales Representatives by assisting with order entry, quote preparation, and sales-related administrative tasks.
  • Provide exceptional customer support by addressing product availability inquiries, delivery status questions, and troubleshooting customer concerns.
  • Maintain and update pricing information and freight equalization data to ensure accuracy.
  • Prepare, analyze, and distribute reports to support sales operations and business decision-making.

What Qualifications Do I Need?

  • Candidate should be enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in a business or marketing related major
  • Must have completed their junior year
  • Preferred GPA at least 2.7
  • Must be highly proficient with PC applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Must be able to work in a team environment and willing to help teammates daily
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to multitask
  • Strong data entry skills, accuracy is a must.
  • Priorities frequently change, requiring great flexibility
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of employees and management
  • Must be able to act objectively and within the strictest environment of confidentiality
  • Must be able to travel

Steel Dynamics is one of the largest and most diversified domestic steel producers and metals recyclers in the United States, with an estimated steelmaking and coating capacity of approximately 13 million tons, and facilities located throughout the United States and in Mexico. We operate using a circular manufacturing model, producing lower-carbon-emission, quality steel using electric arc furnace (EAF) technology with recycled ferrous scrap as the primary input. Our circular economy is powered by our three primary operating platforms: steel, metals recycling, and steel fabrication. Our steel operations produce steel products, including hot roll, cold roll, and coated sheet steel, structural steel beams and shapes, rail, engineered special-bar-quality steel, cold finished steel, merchant bar products, and specialty steel sections. Our metals recycling operations collect and process ferrous and nonferrous scrap from manufacturing and end-of-life items, such as automobiles, appliances, and machinery. This processed scrap is then sold to end-users for reuse, including our EAF steel mills, which produce new steel from the scrapped material. We sell a meaningful amount of steel to our own steel fabrication operations that in turn produce and sell structural steel joist and deck building systems to consumers.
