Job description

Description

Nichols Kaster is adding an associate attorney to its nationwide class action litigation team. The firm's focus is on representing people, not corporations or the government. We do that through class and collective actions that make change in the employment, consumer, school, insurance, healthcare, housing, banking, and financial arenas, among others. Team collaboration and strategizing is a fun and critical aspect of associate positions at the firm. We seek creative, motivated, and socially conscious attorneys who want to use the law to fight injustice and make change.

If you are looking to get involved in high-stakes litigation that advances social and economic justice, this is the practice for you. Associates take an active role in managing their own cases, writing, responding to, and arguing motions, taking and defending depositions, and participating in trials. You will have the opportunity to get involved right away. Unlike other firms, our associates are on the front lines of active litigation and will find the practice both challenging and rewarding.

The position will also assist in generating new cases.  This includes researching ideas, laws, and potential litigation consistent with the firm's mission of bringing large scale cases that aim to shift the power imbalance in our everyday systems away from companies and government institutions and towards people. This work will include drafting complaints, client interaction, and other tasks around the originating and filing new cases.

Requirements

  • Litigate complex class action cases in federal and state courts on behalf of everyday people against corporations and the government
  • Conduct legal research and write legal memoranda

  • Develop relationships with other attorneys in the Plaintiffs' bar
  • Work closely with and supervise paralegals, assistants, interns, and clerks
  • Travel as required for litigation and conferences

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • J.D. degree with two years of experience as a litigator preferred, but not required; responsibilities and compensation will be adjusted based on experience
  • Admission to the MN bar, or eligibility for admission within six months of hire
  • Superior analytical skills and excellent research and writing skills
  • Excellent oral communication and advocacy skills
  • Ability to juggle multiple responsibilities, work independently, and meet strict deadlines under pressure
  • Self-motivated, entrepreneurial, collaborative, and diligent, with a commitment to Plaintiffs' side litigation

BENEFITS

  • Full time, flexible schedule
  • Discretionary year-end bonus
  • Medical and dental benefits
  • 401(k) and profit-sharing plan
