Job description

The Institutional Equity Division (IED) is a global leader in the origination, distribution and trading of equity, equity-linked and equity-derivative securities. The Firm's equity Sales & Trading operations provide liquidity, distribute content, and create product solutions to help our clients generate alpha.

The Equity Financing Products department acts as a strategic partner to more than 800 top hedge fund managers: executing and clearing trades across asset classes, time zones, and currencies; providing financing and expertise to help manage risk and benefit from technology; and consults to help launch new funds and connect with them potential investors. Within Equity Financing Products, the Prime Brokerage (PB) Strategists team, facilitate three core business areas, IED Equity Swaps trading, Stock Loan, Firm Funding, and PB PnL attribution. This includes using synthetic trades to improve efficiency of balance sheet usage, funding and liquidity.

Position Description:


Prime Brokerage Strats work in close collaboration with traders, marketers, senior management and other Strats to provide analysis and bespoke tooling across all of the desk's activities. This may range from custom reporting for clients, P&L analysis, tools to analyze the cost and impact of new trades, inventory / firm resource consumption and fast ad hoc analysis and tooling for situations and opportunities as they appear. The team also has the responsibility for design, build and maintenance of its own infrastructure.


In this rapidly growing area and varied environment, you will have the opportunity to apply your existing abilities, while learning the business and acquiring new technical skills.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of financial industry or financial product data analysis

  • 2+ years of experience in developing applications, at college, or work experience

  • Knowledge of SQL, KDB or equivalent database programming

  • Experience with Python or equivalent high-level computer programming language

  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills

  • Ability to effectively manage time, priorities, and multitasking

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Nice to have:

  • Experience of using AI tooling to streamline development

  • Experience with of KDB/Q

  • Knowledge of Equity Derivatives

  • Knowledge of Stock Loan

  • Knowledge of Prime Brokerage

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $150,000 and $200,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
