Job description

Job Summary:
The GEAR UP tutor will support students through push-in/embedded services and through on demand/drop-in services. Tutors provide expertise, experience, and encouragement to students. Tutoring is offered as a timely intervention and academic support for students. About the Program: Our mission at GEAR UP is to work with students, families, educators, and community members to facilitate college and career readiness. Our ultimate goal is for students from all backgrounds to obtain the training and education needed to lead rewarding, productive lives.
Duties and Responsibilities:
? Assisting students with homework, projects, test preparation, papers, research and other academic tasks
? Working with students to help them understand key concepts, especially those learned in the classroom
? Teaching skills to improve academic performance, including study strategies, note-taking skills and approaches to answering test questions
? Demonstrating academic best practices for specific subjects and assignments, including research and writing tactics
? Assisting teacher in developing and distributing teaching materials to supplement classroom lessons, including study guides ? Providing students positive and constructive feedback
? Offering feedback on progress to students' parents and teachers where appropriate
? Building meaningful connections with students from diverse backgrounds
? Recognizing different learning styles and student preferences
? If tutor is not working with a student during scheduled tutoring hours, they will be responsible for assisting GEAR UP with other initiatives such as helping with student events Eligibility Requirements: Minimum Qualifications:
? Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
? Must be able to pass a background check.
? Must have a working knowledge of Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1.
? Strong communication skills with an emphasis on listening skills.
? Ability to form meaningful relationships with students from diverse backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications:
? Experience tutoring students in an academic setting.
? Completion of College Algebra or higher.
Working Conditions:
? Primarily indoors.
? Classroom setting.
? Small group setting.
Compensation:
Hourly wage: $25.00 This is a temporary, non-benefit-eligible position.
AT WILL CONTRACT
