Job description


HealthPartners is looking to hire a Mental Health Practitioner to join our Afton and Hovander House Behavioral Health team! Come join us as a Partner for Good and help us make an impact on the care and experience that our patients and their families receive every day.
Position Summary:
The Mental Health Practitioner is a member of the RHSC Community Support Programs staff team. We provide mental health treatment services in community residential programs. This position may be assigned to one location and also provide shift coverage at our other programs, upon scheduling need. The Community Support Programs are located in St. Paul and Maplewood.
The Mental Health Practitioner works under the direction and clinical supervision of a mental health professional and clinical manager, providing rehabilitative mental health services as identified in the recipient's individual treatment plan. Mental Health Practitioner provides direct care services to support a safe and supportive environment. Mental Health Practitioner may provide an adult client with education, skill building services, rehabilitative mental health services, functional assessments, level of care assessments, and treatment plans under supervision of mental health professional. Mental Health Practitioner is responsible for maintaining the safety and welfare of program residents during assigned shift. Mental Health Practitioner may provide crisis interventions as necessary, case management/coordination services as directed in treatment plan and by mental health professional, maintain documentation in electronic medical record notes, implement daily rehabilitation interventions, facilitate structure of the program, provide support to residents, facilitate medication administration, maintain compliance to policy and procedures and participate in clinical supervision and required training.
Work Schedule:
3:00pm-11:30pm; e/o weekend
Required Qualifications:
  • Education
    • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience or Equivalent Combination:
    • Must meet ONE the following qualifications:
    • Work experience of 4,000 hours in the delivery of services to individuals with mental illness or substance use disorder; Or traumatic brain injury or developmental disabilities. OR
    • Coursework of at least 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours in behavioral sciences or related fields and meets one of the following:
      • has at least 2,000 hours in the delivery of services to individuals with mental illness or substance use disorder; Or traumatic brain injury or developmental disabilities
      • has completed a practicum or internship that required direct interaction with adults and was focused on behavioral sciences or related fields.
      • is in process of completing a practicum or internship as part of a formal undergraduate or graduate training program in social work, psychology or counseling. OR
  • Master's or other graduate degree in behavioral sciences or related field.
  • Licensure/ Registration/ Certification:
    • Current Medication Administration Certification or will complete required training at department within 90 days of hire (tracked by department).
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    • Must be able to pass the DHS Background Study
    • Ability to operate computer programs including Epic, Outlook, MS Office
    • Interpersonal skills- Ability to listen, remain open and maintain confidentiality.
    • Ethics and ability to treat others with compassion, caring, and empathy.
    • Communication skills- ability to listen and respond with clear and supportive messages.
    • Teamwork- ability to work respectfully with team members, welcoming feedback, contributing in team meetings, actively engage in shift duties.
    • Ability to work independently, showing initiative and problem-solving skills
    • Ability to manage high level of stress, model calm demeanor and de-escalate client behavior
    • Ability to work with patients with difficult emotional, behavioral problems and, or mental illness symptoms and respond with person centered approach.
    • Ability to work collaboratively and seek clinical supervision
    • Ability to work and shift coverage within all the RHSC residential treatment programs
    • Ability to demonstrate appropriate time management skills

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Education:
    • H.S. Diploma or equivalent. Bachelors' Degree in Behavioral Health field or higher.
  • Experience:
    • 4000 hours experience providing services to individuals with: mental illness, substance use disorder, traumatic brain injury or developmental disability.
  • Licensure/ Registration/ Certification:
    • First Aid, CPR, Valid Driver's license with no driving restrictions.
