Job description

Location: Logistics: 2nd FLR BLK 900
PRIMARY PURPOSE
This enterprise-wide position, within the Sustainability Department, is responsible for planning and executing multi-year energy, water, and greenhouse gas reduction strategies. This position develops, implements and monitors energy efficient initiatives, maintains utility agreements, and manages the organization's long-term energy strategies.
MINIMUM SPECIFICATIONS
Education
  • Must have a bachelor's degree in Energy Management, Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field, from an accredited university.

Experience
  • Must have eight (8) years of energy management experience, preferably in a healthcare setting.

Equivalent Education and/or Experience
  • May have an equivalent combination of education and experience to substitute for both the education and experience requirements.

Certification/Registration/Licensure
  • Must have Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification.
  • Must have Certified Energy Procurement Professional (CEP) certification or able to obtain within 18 months of placement in role.

Required Tests for Placement
  • None.

Skills or Special Abilities
  • Knowledge, skill and ability in the operation of a central plant and healthcare utility infrastructure.
  • Detailed, in-depth knowledge of energy conservation, building automation systems, HVAC, and lighting controls.
  • Advanced knowledge and skills in healthcare utilities management including knowledge of rate structures and energy reduction management.
  • Knowledge, skill and ability in the preparation, planning and administering of large operational and capital budgets.
  • Ability to understand, interpret and comply with federal, state and local regulatory codes and laws including applicable environmental and healthcare regulations.
  • Knowledge, skill and ability in project management, construction management or facility management.
  • Able to manage multiple system-wide projects at once.
  • Interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate, influence and lead.
  • Must demonstrate a strong financial analysis ability and a proven track record of performing robust business analyses of energy related projects. Flexibility, open-mindedness, collaborative nature, and willingness to embrace ambiguity are essential.

Responsibilities
  • Assesses energy savings opportunities in all Parkland locations, provides recommendations on projects, and implements both long- and short-term strategies.
  • Manages the long-term energy strategy ' electricity, natural gas, and renewables across the organization. Reviews and recommends alternative energy sources and solutions, including development of business case documents and presentation of subject matter.
  • Manages procurement of electricity and natural gas contracts and monitors power purchases and hedge strategies on an ongoing basis. Makes strategic recommendations as needed.
  • Manages monthly invoices, budgets and forecasts for electricity, natural gas, and water utilities. Evaluates and implements cost savings opportunities when possible.
  • Measurably decreases energy consumption, decreases Parkland's impact on the environment, and integrates energy conservation practices into the organization. Ensures that initiatives comply with all applicable regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Monitors and reports utility and sustainability data. Uses data to improve energy and water efficiency programs, create and monitor budgets, submit regulatory reports, and provide information for other organizational reports.
  • Collaborates on renovation and new construction projects to ensure that sustainable building practices are followed wherever possible, including organizational standards and LEED requirements.
  • Maintains energy-related standards for building certification programs (e.g. LEED, ENERGY STAR, ASHE, etc).
  • Selects, trains, motivates, manages, and evaluates employee(s), making recommendations for improvement to ensure maximum utilization of individual and group capabilities. Ensures that assigned employee(s) receive opportunities to further their knowledge.

Job Accountabilities
  • Identifies and analyzes the design of jobs, work processes, work flows, etc. for the area and implements appropriate changes to improve effectiveness, productivity, and efficiency that support the overall goals of the department and Parkland.
  • Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations, and/or maintaining certification or licensure. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.
  • Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws and guidelines that impact the area. Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as needed to ensure proper understanding.
  • Develops and monitors annual budgets that ensure the department has the necessary funds to carry out the goals and objectives that have been established for the department.
  • Develops, implements, monitors, and revises annual goals and objectives for the department that support the missions and objectives of Parkland.
  • Selects, trains, schedules, motivates, supervises, and evaluates employees making recommendations for disciplinary actions up to and including termination, to ensure maximum utilization of individual and group capabilities. Ensures that assigned employees receive opportunities to further their knowledge.
