What is an EnergyCAP specialist?

An EnergyCAP specialist is a professional who manages, analyzes, and reports on energy and utility data using the EnergyCAP software platform. They help organizations track energy consumption, identify cost-saving opportunities, and ensure accurate billing and sustainability reporting. These specialists often work with facility managers, sustainability teams, and financial departments to optimize energy usage and reduce environmental impact.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an EnergyCAP specialist?

To thrive as an EnergyCAP Specialist, you need a background in energy management, data analysis, and familiarity with utility billing processes, often supported by a degree in engineering, environmental science, or a related field. Experience with the EnergyCAP software platform, utility data tracking tools, and proficiency in Excel are typically required, and certifications like Certified Energy Manager (CEM) can be beneficial. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help professionals interpret data and collaborate with stakeholders. These skills are crucial for ensuring accurate energy reporting, cost savings, and effective sustainability initiatives within organizations.

What types of projects or clients does an EnergyCAP specialist typically manage, and how does project variety impact daily responsibilities?

As an EnergyCAP specialist, you will work with a diverse range of clients—such as universities, government agencies, and large commercial enterprises—each with unique energy data management needs. Projects can include utility bill auditing, sustainability reporting, and implementing energy-saving initiatives. This variety means your daily responsibilities may shift from troubleshooting data integration issues to training client staff on best practices or collaborating with internal development teams to customize software solutions. The dynamic nature of the role keeps the work engaging and helps you build expertise across multiple industries.

Job description

EnergyCAP, LLC is an industry-leading and award-winning software company focused on energy and sustainability management. EnergyCAP is trusted by 10,000+ Energy and Sustainability professionals across the country to be their single source of truth for financial-grade, actionable data to better manage resources, reduce carbon, and drive savings. If you're looking for a role that enables you to do what you do best while making the future more sustainable, this is the role for you!
Our core values are: Accountability, Impact, Innovation, Integrity, and Teamwork.
Build a more sustainable future with us! Visit www.EnergyCAP.com to learn more.
About the Role
We're looking for a Senior Project Manager to join our Onboarding & Implementation (O&I) team, where you'll take ownership of getting new customers ('new logos') up and running on EnergyCAP and lead expansion projects for existing customers as they grow their use of the platform.
You'll manage the full project lifecycle - from kickoff through a smooth handoff to the Customer Success team - driving toward fast, high-value implementations (typically within three to six months) and customer experiences strong enough to translate into great NPS scores and long-term product adoption. You'll bring an AI-forward mindset to how you run projects, using modern tools to work faster and smarter without sacrificing quality.
What You'll Do
  • Take extreme ownership of assigned onboarding and implementation projects, managing them from kickoff through a smooth transition to the Customer Success team.
  • Manage multiple projects of varying complexity simultaneously, following O&I methodology to control scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Identify and apply methods to accelerate project timelines so customers realize value from EnergyCAP as quickly as possible.
  • Delegate and coordinate work across project engineers and enrollment specialists to keep implementations moving and on track.
  • Identify and work to meet each customer's defined Keys to Success and specified outcomes for their project.
  • Configure EnergyCAP software and set up customer databases as defined in the Statement of Work for assigned projects.
  • Proactively identify, assess, document, and mitigate risks to successful project completion.
  • Conduct regular project status meetings - including agendas and minutes - and manage ongoing communication on work completed, work remaining, and risk mitigation plans.
  • Effectively influence internal and external project team members, in person and remote, to keep projects moving toward shared goals.
  • Provide online training to customers, plus occasional onsite training.
  • Administer 'mini' premium success projects for existing customers - such as additional training or hourly support - as they expand their use of EnergyCAP.
  • Support strategic O&I initiatives as assigned.

What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field.
  • 3-5 years of project management experience, ideally at a software company or in an energy/sustainability-related environment.
  • PMP certification.
  • Experience implementing enterprise software and/or energy-related projects.
  • Demonstrated experience building and using AI tools to improve efficiency and accelerate project execution.
  • Comfort using basic Microsoft Excel functionality and formulas.
  • Strong customer-facing experience, with the ability to influence and build trust with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Adaptable, organized, and self-motivated - a self-starter who pushes projects forward independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Pay Range: $90,000 - $110,000 annual salary with a 3% bonus.
Pay is commensurate with experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
