Position:

The Department of Kinesiology at California State University, Northridge (CSUN) is seeking a tenure-track faculty member in Adapted Physical Activity, Motor Behavior, and Sport & Exercise Psychology at the rank of assistant professor. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses and have research interests in one or more of these areas: Adapted Physical Activity, Motor Behavior, and Sport & Exercise Psychology.

Secondary teaching responsibilities may include other closely related courses offered within the department. The typical teaching load is 12 units per semester. Faculty are also responsible for student advisement, supervision of graduate research projects, maintaining active scholarly research and publication, and seeking grants and external funding in the related fields. In addition to teaching, the position requires weekly office hours, attending faculty meetings, participation in assessment of student learning, and service to the department, college, and university. The successful candidate may be required to teach on weekdays, evenings, weekends, and/or online and will be held to the standards and requirements of the college and department in which he/she/they is/are housed for recommending tenure and promotion. Given CSUN's commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and engagement in a diverse environment, the successful candidate will help the Department achieve equitable academic outcomes for all students through teaching, student mentorship, scholarship, and service.

Required Qualifications:  

  • A doctorate in Kinesiology or a closely related field of study. Candidates in the process of completing a doctoral degree will be considered, but the degree must be conferred before the time of appointment.
  • Demonstrate the potential to conduct research, procure external funding, and engage in scholarly activities in their areas of expertise.
  • College or University-level teaching experience or potential to teach in-person, hybrid, or online courses.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expertise and ability to teach two or more areas: Adapted Physical Activity, Motor Behavior, Sport & Exercise Psychology.
  • Ability to teach closely related courses (Adapted Aquatics, Data Science, Epidemiology in physical activity).
  • Clinical or field experience in the related subject area.
  • Evidence of research ability and ongoing scholarly productivity.
  • Research/lab experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience adopting inclusive approaches to mentoring.
  • Relevant credentials or certifications (ATRIC, CMPC, CIFT, or equivalent).
  • Broad and balanced disciplinary knowledge across biological, socio-cultural, and aesthetic dimensions of human movement.
  • Evidence of effective engagement or potential to engage with a diverse student body.
  • Experience using culturally responsive pedagogy that leads to equitable outcomes.
  • Experience creating student-centered learning environments.
