The Globalization Experience Team is searching for an Internationalization Software Developer responsible for creating, enhancing, and maintaining robust software to ensure SAS products function effectively for global users across various languages, locales, and character sets. This position is centered on assisting the integration of fundamental internationalization (I18N) frameworks such as Unicode support, locale-sensitive formatting and sorting, and externalized string management. Additionally, the role leverages Agentic and Generative AI methods to boost developer efficiency and enhance software readiness for worldwide deployment throughout its lifecycle.
As an Internationalization AI Software Developer, you will:
  • Design, develop, and maintain software, libraries, and tooling that enable product teams to efficiently build high-quality, global-ready software in compliance with SAS Internationalization guidelines and standards.
  • Apply Agentic and Generative AI thoughtfully and responsibly to build AI driven internationalization solutions for AI use across product teams. Focus on developer tooling, automation, analysis, and guidance to improve quality, consistency, and scalability. Ensure correctness, explainability, and alignment with Unicode and CLDR standards.
  • Partner closely with cross-functional stakeholders-including product development teams, product managers, project managers, support engineers, and testers-to integrate internationalization best practices early and throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with internationalization testers to guide testing strategies, investigate defects, and drive engineering improvements that result in high-quality, globally usable product deliverables.
  • Learn, Apply, and Share internationalization fundamentals and best practices across engineering and product teams through technical guidance, documentation, training, and hands-on collaboration.

Required qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience as a software developer, with proficiency in one or more of the following programming languages: Go, Python, or C.
  • Ability to read, understand, and contribute to production codebases.
  • Demonstrated experience using Agentic and Generative AI to build or enhance reliable software solutions, with an understanding of appropriate validation and human-in-the-loop practices.
  • Working proficiency in shell scripting (e.g., Bash or similar) to support automation, tooling, or development workflows.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams including developers, testers, and product stakeholders.
  • Hands-on experience using GitHub in a team environment, including branching strategies, pull requests, and code review processes.
  • Experience using Jira and Confluence as part of an Agile development process, including issue tracking, planning, and documentation.
  • Ability to adjust working hours to accommodate a variety of time zones
  • Equivalent combination of related education, training and experience may be considered in place of the above qualifications.

Additional competencies, knowledge and skills
  • Hands-on experience applying internationalization best practices and working with industry-standard libraries such as ICU and CLDR.
  • Experience with SAS programming or familiarity with SAS language, tools, or development environments.
  • Experience with TypeScript and Java Script a plus.
  • Experience working with CI/CD pipelines, including build, test, or deployment automation.
  • Proficiency in additional spoken language.
