How does a Remote Finite Element Analysis (FEA) Engineer typically collaborate with cross-functional teams while working remotely?

Remote FEA Engineers frequently coordinate with design, manufacturing, and quality assurance teams using digital collaboration tools like CAD software, project management platforms, and video conferencing. Regular virtual meetings and clear documentation are essential to ensure accurate communication of simulation results and design recommendations. Despite being remote, FEA engineers are expected to proactively share insights, address feedback, and adjust models based on multidisciplinary input, maintaining a seamless workflow with both engineering peers and non-technical stakeholders.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Finite Element Analysis (FEA) Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Finite Element Analysis (FEA) Engineer, you need a solid background in mechanical or structural engineering, expertise in FEA methodologies, and a relevant engineering degree. Proficiency in FEA software such as ANSYS, Abaqus, or SolidWorks Simulation, as well as knowledge of CAD systems and simulation tools, is typically required. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective remote communication skills help set candidates apart in this position. These abilities ensure accurate virtual testing, efficient problem-solving, and seamless collaboration in remote engineering environments.

What is a Remote Finite Element Analysis (FEA) Engineer?

A Remote Finite Element Analysis (FEA) Engineer is a professional who uses specialized software to simulate and analyze the physical behavior of structures and components under various conditions, such as stress, heat, or vibration, from a remote location. Their work helps identify design flaws, optimize materials, and ensure product safety and performance before physical prototypes are built. These engineers communicate with clients and teams virtually, making it possible to work for organizations worldwide without being on-site. Strong skills in mathematics, engineering principles, and FEA software are essential for this role.

Overview System One is seeking a highly capable and motivated mechanical analysis engineer for a yearlong, fully remote contract position. In this role, you will develop analysis methodologies using finite element methods and hand calculations to predict mechanical behavior of reactor core components and develop software to automate analyses. Other responsibilities include mechanical analysis of the reactor core and verification and validation of methods and software.

Responsibilities

  • Develop analysis methodologies using finite element methods and hand calculations to predict mechanical behavior of reactor core components
  • Create software using Python to automate finite element model generation for reactor core analysis
  • Perform mechanical analysis of the reactor core and develop verification and validation methods for software and analysis techniques
  • Support testing for validation of mechanical codes and methods, including test requirements, acceptance criteria, prediction, post-processing, and collaboration with test engineers
  • Analyze reactor core and core component mechanical behavior using FEA (Abaqus preferred)
  • Develop analysis methods for sodium fast reactor core mechanical behavior
  • Support testing and validation activities through documentation, test planning, and data analysis
  • Utilize strong finite element analysis and solid mechanics knowledge to produce reliable and accurate results
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering (or equivalent)
  • 3+ years of relevant working experience
  • Strong experience with finite element analysis (FEA), including nonlinear analysis (Abaqus preferred)
  • Expert understanding of finite element methods and solid mechanics (statics, dynamics, strength of materials)
  • Coding skills in Python (preferred)
  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Ability to meet aggressive schedules and produce value without waiting for assignments
  • Excellent communication skills and willingness to give and receive professional criticism
  • High degree of trust, integrity, and teamwork orientation
