Work EnvironmentOffice-based, sales departmentsCall centers, retail, or office settings
Required SkillsSales knowledge, communication, CRM proficiencyCommunication, problem-solving, customer focus

Understanding these differences helps job seekers find the right role aligned with their skills and career goals.

What is the highest salary for sales support?

The highest salaries for internal sales support roles can reach up to $70,000 to $90,000 annually, especially in industries like technology or pharmaceuticals, with experienced professionals or those in managerial positions earning more. Factors such as location, company size, and individual skills influence salary potential, and certifications like CRM or sales training can enhance earning prospects.

What job makes $10,000 a month without a degree?

Internal Sales Support roles typically do not reach $10,000 per month without significant experience or performance-based bonuses. High-earning sales positions, such as enterprise or technical sales, can reach this level through commissions and strong client relationships, often requiring excellent communication skills and industry knowledge. Most roles at this income level generally demand relevant experience, sales skills, and sometimes certifications, rather than formal degrees alone.

What does internal sales support do?

Internal sales support involves assisting the sales team by managing customer accounts, processing orders, preparing sales documents, and providing product information. This role often requires strong communication skills, familiarity with customer relationship management (CRM) tools, and the ability to coordinate between sales and other departments to ensure customer satisfaction.

What is the difference between SDR and ISR?

In sales roles, an SDR (Sales Development Representative) primarily focuses on prospecting and qualifying leads to generate new business opportunities, often through cold outreach and initial contact. An ISR (Inside Sales Representative) typically handles further engagement with qualified leads, conducts product demonstrations, and works toward closing sales, often within an inside sales environment. Both roles require strong communication skills and familiarity with CRM tools.

Job description

Internal Sales Consultant (Internal Wholesaler)

About the role

As an Internal Wholesaler at Vanguard, you'll help financial advisors understand how our investment solutions can support their clients' longterm goals. You will play a key role in growing a defined territory, partnering closely with an External Sales Executive to deepen advisor relationships and drive new business. Your work directly supports Vanguard's mission to give investors the best chance for investment success through clarity, partnership, and a clientfirst mindset.

What you'll do

  • Partner with an External Sales Executive to grow business and strengthen advisor relationships within an assigned territory.

  • Engage proactively with financial advisors through phone, web meetings, and email to understand their needs and present Vanguard solutions.

  • Lead consultative sales conversations that align with advisor goals, investment approaches, and client priorities.

  • Coordinate followup actions across sales executives and internal partners; handle mediumcomplexity inquiries from clients and prospects.

  • Create presentation materials for advisor meetings, conferences, and internal discussions.

  • Conduct competitive research on investment products, positioning, fees, and marketing strategies.

  • Collaborate with teams across Sales, Relationship Management, Compliance, and Operations to support client needs and business growth.

  • Contribute to special projects and broader strategic initiatives as assigned.

What we're looking for

  • Three years related work experience.

  • Minimum 2 years of wholesaling experience required.

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience.

  • Progress toward investmentrelated certifications (such as CFP, CFA, CIMA, or CAIA) preferred.

  • Strong interest in financial services and consultative sales.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and deliver clear value propositions.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

  • Regulatory license or registration (e.g., FINRA, state, SFC) may be required depending on specific responsibilities.

Training & Career Path

All new hires receive comprehensive training focused on "selling the Vanguard way," including product knowledge, consultative sales techniques, and relationshipbuilding skills. After successful completion of the training program and demonstrated performance, you may advance to an Internal Sales Consultant role, partnering directly with an External Sales Executive to support territory growth.
