What is an internal IT support?

Internal IT Support professionals are responsible for assisting an organization's employees with technical issues related to computer systems, software, and networks. They troubleshoot problems, install and configure hardware and software, and ensure that technology runs smoothly within the company. Their goal is to minimize downtime and help staff work efficiently by resolving technical issues quickly. Internal IT Support staff often work as part of a team and may provide both remote and on-site assistance. They also play a key role in maintaining IT security and implementing updates.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an internal IT support specialist?

To thrive as an Internal IT Support specialist, you need strong troubleshooting abilities, a solid understanding of computer systems and networks, and typically a degree in IT or relevant certifications such as CompTIA A+ or Microsoft Certified Professional. Familiarity with ticketing systems, remote desktop tools, and enterprise software like Active Directory is essential. Excellent communication, patience, and problem-solving skills set top performers apart in this role. These skills ensure rapid issue resolution, minimize downtime, and support seamless business operations.

What are some typical challenges faced by internal IT support professionals, and how can they effectively manage them?

Internal IT Support professionals often encounter challenges such as handling a high volume of support requests, troubleshooting diverse technical issues, and managing user expectations under tight deadlines. Effective prioritization, clear communication, and maintaining up-to-date technical knowledge are key strategies for managing these challenges. Collaborating closely with other IT team members and end-users also helps ensure issues are resolved efficiently and that employees are empowered to use technology effectively within the organization.

Job description

The Role

We are currently seeking an experienced IT Support Specialist to join our IT Team. This position requires familiarity with Mac, some experience with Windows PCs, and an overall love of technology in a primarily Apple-based corporate environment. Our perfect candidate loves to problem-solve on the fly, provide exceptional support primarily in a fast-paced office environment, and is always looking for the optimal solution when solving IT issues.

Addepar takes a market-based approach to pay. A successful candidate's starting pay will be determined based on the role, job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions.

The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target base salary for roles in Colorado, California, and New York. The current range for this role is $104,000 - $130,000 (base salary) + bonus + equity + benefits.

Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process. Additionally, these ranges reflect the base salary only, and do not include bonus, equity, or benefits.

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without requiring current or future visa sponsorship (for example, employment-based visas such as H-1B, F-1/OPT, or similar), and must be authorized to begin work in the U.S. on their first day of employment.

What You'll Do
  • Provide on-site,  hands-on support for employees while maintaining the reliability and efficiency of core IT infrastructure.
  • Act as an escalation point for advanced technical issues, resolving complex problems across Mac and Windows environments with minimal supervision.
  • Configure, manage, and optimize SaaS and cloud-based platforms (e.g., Google, Worksplace, Okta, Zoom, Slack) to support enterprise operations and improve user experience.
  • Develop, maintain, and evolve internal IT documentation, runbooks, and best practices, helping to standardize processes across the global IT organization.
  • Mentor junior team members, offering guidance and knowledge transfer in areas such as system administration, platform configuration, and support workflows.
  • Collaborate with global IT counterparts to ensure alignment on international support practices, security requirements, and stakeholder priorities.
Who You Are
  • You have 4+ years of experience in a corporate IT environment, with increasing levels of autonomy and technical ownership.
  • You're proficient in administering and troubleshooting SaaS platforms including Google Workspace, Okta, Slack, and Zoom. Experience with Jira administration is a plus.
  • You're comfortable working with MDM solutions (Jamf preferred), and managing endpoint security tools and compliance workflows.
  • You bring strong troubleshooting skills across macOS and Windows, and can independently resolve complex hardware and software issues.
  • You've supported networks and connected devices, and have experience with Ubiquiti or similar networking  environments.
  • You're familiar with the command line and have working knowledge of basic scripting (e.g., Bash, Python, or similar) to automate tasks or improve support workflows.
  • You understand enterprise IT security practices and compliance requirements, and incorporate them into daily operations.
  • You're proactive, resourceful, and comfortable operating independently while also contributing to the broader goals of a global IT team.
