Job Description: The Communications Manager is responsible for executing communication initiatives that support organizational goals, strengthen teammate engagement, enhance brand reputation, and promote a consistent organizational voice across all audiences. This role serves as a communications partner to stakeholders across the organization, translating complex business information into compelling, informative, and actionable content while supporting storytelling efforts that showcase the company's culture, values, achievements, and strategic priorities.
This role will report to the Senior Manager of External Communications. While this is primarily a remote position, preference will be given to candidates based in or around Owens & Minor's office in Richmond, VA. The anticipated salary for this position is $90,000-$100,000 annually with a 10% AIP eligibility. The actual compensation offered may vary based on job-related factors such as experience, skills, education, and location.
Core Responsibilities:
  • Executes strategic internal and external communication plans that support organizational priorities, business objectives, and brand awareness initiatives.
  • Creates compelling written content and storytelling initiatives that communicate company strategy, culture, and achievements.
  • Develops and maintains external communication materials that support company initiatives, brand visibility, corporate reputation, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Supports the development and coordination of external communications including customer communications, employer branding content, and public-facing messaging as appropriate.
  • Partners with stakeholders to ensure consistency of messaging, branding, and communication strategies across internal and external audiences.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to support program initiatives.
  • Supports employer branding initiatives by developing content that highlights company culture, teammate experiences, organizational achievements, and community involvement.
  • Monitors communication trends, engagement metrics, and stakeholder feedback to measure effectiveness and identify continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Manages multiple communication projects simultaneously while ensuring quality, consistency, accuracy, and timely delivery.
  • Ensures all communications align with company brand standards, organizational values, communication governance requirements, and applicable compliance guidelines.
  • Supports crisis and issue-management communications by assisting with the development and distribution of timely, accurate, and consistent messaging.
  • Fosters collaborative relationships and encourages the sharing of ideas, innovation, and communication best practices across teams and departments.
  • Adapt and flex to deliver ad-hoc projects as needed.

Qualifying Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Business Administration, or a related field required.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in corporate communications, public relations, marketing communications, or a related strategic communications function.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing communication strategies and programs within a complex corporate environment.
  • Experience working in highly regulated industries, healthcare, and/or supply chain.
  • B2B and Healthcare industry experience preferred.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite preferred.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to translate complex concepts and organizational initiatives into clear, concise, and impactful communications.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, proofreading, copyediting, storytelling, and content development skills with a strong command of grammar and business writing.
  • Proven ability to build partnerships, influence stakeholders, and provide consultative communication support.
  • Strong presentation, facilitation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and stakeholders simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational skills with a focus on accuracy, attention to detail, and quality.
  • Experience measuring communication effectiveness and utilizing metrics to drive continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and take ownership of assigned initiatives from concept through execution.
  • Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while adapting to changing business priorities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint Online, email communication platforms (Pardot preferred), and other communication management tools.
  • Ability to travel occasionally based upon business needs.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
