Job description

Colt Builders Corp. is seeking a motivated Field Intern to join our construction team. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to gain hands-on experience in wood-frame construction while learning from experienced carpenters, foremen, and site supervisors on active job sites.

The Field Intern will assist with day-to-day jobsite activities, learn industry best practices, and develop skills in construction tools, materials, and safety procedures.

Duties and responsibilities

โ€ข Follow all Colt and site specific safety procedures at all times.

โ€ข Assist carpenters and foreman on site with tasks as assigned, such as but not limited to: clean-ing, preparing the job site and assisting material deliveries

โ€ข Perform basic punch work including installing hold-downs, hangars and other misc. hardware

โ€ข Develop proficiencies in the use and care of a circular saw and pneumatic nail guns and hand tools

โ€ข Assist with jobsite paperwork

โ€ข Communicate with Carpenter, Foreman, Site Supervisor and Project Manager when necessary

โ€ข Increase job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities (safety seminars, toolbox talks, industry-related activities)


Qualifications

โ€ข Ability to use basic hand and power tools

โ€ข Basic understanding of material types and sized (ie. 2x4, 2x6, sheathing)

โ€ข Basic job safety knowledge

โ€ข Desire to learn more skills and gain more on-site responsibilities

โ€ข Ability to use Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook

โ€ข OSHA 10 hour certification


Working conditions

This is a full-time field position, typically requiring 40+ hours per week. Some weekend work may be required depending on project schedules. Work is performed on active construction sites and may involve exposure to:

  • Hot, cold, or humid weather conditions
  • Outdoor environments
  • Physically demanding tasks


Essential Function requirements

Field Interns must have physical strength, hand-eye coordination and endurance. Must also be able to concentrate on their tasks. The ability to understand and communicate information is also essential.
