Role Overview

Once you join our TMHCC Specialty Group's Crisis Management division, your role will be to evaluate new and renewal policy applications and related documentation to classify and assess risks, communicate and build relationships with brokers and other outside contacts, and create and maintain all underwriting documentation according to procedures and other departmental guidelines.

  • Gain understanding of the underwriting process: During the first 30 days learn how to evaluate the unique risks of kidnap and ransom, review submissions and ask a lot of questions throughout the process.

  • Review and Quote less complicated risks: During the first 60 days be able to quote easier risks, with little oversight needed.

  • Find creative solutions: During the first 90 days, be able to demonstrate critical thinking skills by writing business that satisfies both the client and our risk appetite.

  • Understand more complex risks: During the first 6 months begin to understand more complex risks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate new and renewal policy applications and related documents to classify and assess each risk, determine acceptability, assign rating, indicate endorsements and limits, and determine appropriate pricing.

  • Manage a high volume of broker submissions by following structured work plans and meeting predefined turnaround-time goals.

  • Meet or exceed established commitments on deadlines to maintain strong broker satisfaction and competitive market placement.

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for brokers; build and maintain strong, collaborative market relationships to facilitate the underwriting process, promote business development, drive profitable premium growth, and stay abreast of industry trends.

  • Articulate underwriting decisions, pricing rationale, and policy terms clearly and persuasively to brokers and direct manager.

  • Gather market intelligence and broker feedback to identify new business opportunities and improve service delivery.

  • Communicate production activities, risk appetite, and business results with management and cross-functional teams as appropriate.

  • Contact and respond to verbal and written inquiries from brokers within designated timeframe to provide appropriate information and serve as an underwriting resource.

  • Create and maintain all documentation (physical and electronic) including new and renewal bound files, underwriting worksheets, documentation of phone conversations, and other key documents according to departmental guidelines.

  • Adhere to all company underwriting authority directives, underwriting guidelines, and other applicable company policies and procedures.

  • Serve as a resource to other departmental staff with regards to underwriting procedures and other departmental guidelines.

  • Develop understanding of various factors that affect and influence policy rating and risk.

Travel expectations

  • Travel (up to 20%) will be required.

The pay range for this position is $30.58 - $38.22, which includes geographic adjustments, where applicable. The pay range is the range THMCC, in good faith, believes is the range of compensation for this role at the time of this posting.
