Job description

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Registered Nurse to join our leadership team as a Traveling Interim DON. This role provides on-site nursing leadership during transitions, rapid-turnaround needs, regulatory situations, or emergent vacancies. The ideal candidate thrives in change, communicates clearly, and can quickly assess and stabilize clinical systems in a skilled nursing environment.


Duties

  • Serve as the acting Director of Nursing during interim assignments.
  • Provide leadership and oversight to ensure high-quality resident care.
  • Assess facility systems, workflows, compliance status, and staffing needs.
  • Lead survey readiness, regulatory compliance, and corrective action planning.
  • Maintain communication with the Administrator and Regional Nurse Consultant.
  • Ensure adherence to CMS and state-specific regulations.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and training of nursing department leaders.
  • Implement strong clinical standards, audits, QAPI, and quality measure systems.
  • Model professionalism, accountability, and problem solving.


Experience

  • Active RN license (state-specific or multistate compact).
  • 2–3 years of DON or ADON-level leadership required.
  • Strong knowledge of CMS regulations and survey processes.
  • Ability to travel regionally with short notice.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Strong critical thinking and prioritization abilities.
