Job description

Are you ready to make a change?

We are seeking an experienced Regional Travel Interim Director of Nursing / MDS Clinical Consultant to support our long-term care facilities during periods of leadership vacancy, transition, or operational need.

This position will provide interim Director of Nursing coverage when a DON position is vacant and will also assist with MDS oversight, assessment completion, care plan accuracy, reimbursement support, and clinical compliance.

This is a regional travel position requiring flexibility, strong leadership skills, and the ability to quickly stabilize nursing operations, support facility teams, and maintain compliance with state and federal long-term care regulations.

Key Responsibilities for Region Travel Director of Nursing and MDS Consultant

  • Serve as Interim Director of Nursing when a facility DON position is vacant

  • Provide clinical leadership and oversight to nursing departments

  • Support MDS completion, scheduling, accuracy, and reimbursement processes

  • Assist with care plan review and interdisciplinary team coordination

  • Monitor clinical systems, including wound care, infection control, falls, psychotropics, weight loss, and high-risk residents

  • Prepare facilities for survey readiness and regulatory compliance

  • Assist with Plans of Correction, audits, and follow-up monitoring

  • Support nurse leadership training and development

  • Partner with Administrators, Regional Operations, and Clinical Leadership to improve facility outcomes

  • Travel to assigned buildings as needed based on vacancy, census, survey risk, and operational priorities

Qualifications

  • Active RN license required

  • Long-term care/skilled nursing experience required

  • Prior DON or ADON experience strongly preferred

  • MDS experience required

  • Knowledge of state and federal nursing home regulations

  • Strong leadership, communication, and follow-through skills

  • Ability to travel regionally and adapt quickly to facility needs

  • Experience with survey readiness, POC completion, and clinical audits preferred
