The Project Engineer is responsible for independently performing the design and drawing production aspect of engineering projects supporting land development and public works sector. They must demonstrate technical proficiency, make technical evaluation, and apply engineering judgment and decisions for the timely and accurate completion of assigned projects.

Essential Functions

  • Defines customer requirements and the conformity of the system to the contractual specifications
  • Coordinates and controls the interfaces internally, for customers and partners
  • Technical point of contact for customers and external partners
  • At the design stage, identifies alternatives and optimization opportunities that could impact the design, supplies or site operations, based on the strategy determined
  • Begins serving as primary point of contact for client project communication
  • Responsible for the validation of schematics and documentation on specific aspects of projects
  • Receives and coordinates feedback from the other parts of the process (design, site and client) from the beginning of the basic design to final product approval
  • Prepares proposal estimates of time and expense required to complete quality projects
  • Negotiates with clients for supplemental changes to existing contracts
  • Capable of producing a clear, attractive set of plans with minimum supervision
  • Independently maintains design and drawing accuracy, quality, completeness, and schedule compliance
  • Has a strong appreciation for and is committed to compliance with graphic standards
  • May monitor construction progress and review contractor change orders
  • May be required to follow up with client on outstanding invoices
  • Seeks and accepts increasing levels of responsibility
  • Shows continued and progressive professional development inside and outside of BHC
  • Maintains client relationships and establishes new ones through business development activities
  • Engages clients and potential clients to identify future opportunities for work

Experience

  • 4+ years experience in similar field required
  • Experience as an Engineer with demonstrated success completing projects
  • Experience in the Development/Public Works/Utilities industry preferred
  • Experience with a public agency, one of our clients or another consulting firm
  • Work cooperatively in a highly interactive project team setting

Skills

  • Must be proficient in three-dimensional computer aided design and have a strong ability to utilize other technologies on those projects
  • Specific and recognized technical expertise
  • Ability to lead the design on large or complex projects
  • Self-starter able to articulate ideas and needs

Education

  • Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering required
  • Must be a licensed Professional Engineer
  • Masters degree is a plus
