Employment Type: Full-Time
Work Model: Hybrid (Downtown San Diego)
Base Salary: $85,000–$110,000+ (depending on experience)
About the Role

We are hiring an experienced Litigation Legal Secretary / Legal Assistant to support a busy Intellectual Property Litigation practice at a well-respected California law firm.

This is a litigation-first role. While the team focuses on Intellectual Property Litigation, the firm is primarily looking for someone with strong federal litigation experience. Intellectual Property can be taught. Federal litigation cannot.

You'll support attorneys handling sophisticated, high-stakes litigation in federal court, working closely with a collaborative team on complex matters from inception through trial.

If your experience is primarily patent prosecution, patent support, or transactional work, this is not the right fit.

Must-Have Experience

You must have:

  • Heavy federal litigation experience within a law firm
  • Extensive U.S. District Court e-filing experience
  • Litigation Legal Secretary or Litigation Legal Assistant experience
  • Experience managing attorney calendars and litigation deadlines
  • Strong document preparation, proofreading, and formatting skills
Preferred Background

Ideal

  • Intellectual Property Litigation

Strong Alternative Backgrounds

  • Commercial Litigation
  • Business Litigation

Less Preferred

  • General Civil Litigation without significant federal court experience
What You Will Do
  • Prepare, proofread, and format pleadings, motions, discovery, subpoenas, correspondence, and other litigation documents
  • Handle extensive U.S. District Court e-filings
  • Manage attorney calendars and track litigation deadlines
  • Coordinate hearings, depositions, mediations, arbitrations, and trial preparation
  • Communicate with clients, courts, opposing counsel, and vendors
  • Support complex litigation matters, including JCCP proceedings when applicable
  • Assist with International Trade Commission (ITC) matters as needed
  • Work closely with attorneys, paralegals, and administrative staff to keep matters moving efficiently
Why This Role Makes Sense
  • Retirement replacement with a stable, long-term opportunity
  • Join a highly respected California law firm
  • Work on sophisticated federal litigation matters
  • Collaborative litigation team with experienced attorneys
  • Competitive compensation and bonus potential
  • Hybrid work schedule in Downtown San Diego
  • Strong long-term career growth
