Java Integration Engineer

Apply now Job no: 504842
Work type: Full Time Regular
Location: Remote

Join Mutual of Omaha's Workplace Solutions team and help shape the future of claims technology for hundreds of thousands of members. We are in the middle of a major transformation & migrating a 25-year on-premises claims adjudication platform (FINEOS) to its modern SaaS offering in the cloud. This isn't a lift-and-shift. It's a ground-up rebuild of the integrations that power short-term disability, long-term disability, life insurance, hospital indemnity, critical illness, and our expanding absence management product line.

As a Java Integration Engineer on the ReClaimer's team, you will own features end-to-end; from intake all the way through to payment; working across a shared technology stack with a cross-functional team of engineers and business analysts. If you want your code to directly impact members at their most vulnerable moments, this is that role.

What We Can Offer You

  • Estimated Salary: $138,000 - $158,000, plus annual bonus opportunity
  • 401(k) plan with a 2% company contribution and 6% company match
  • Work-life balance with vacation, personal time and paid holidays. See our benefits and perks page for details
  • Applicants for this position must not now, nor at any point in the future, require sponsorship for employment

This role is classified as remote; however, periodic in-person attendance will be required at times for activities such as quarterly or project planning, training, or other business-critical meetings.

What You'll Do

  • Design and build API and microservice integrations connecting FINEOS insurance SaaS to internal systems including payments, member onboarding, financial platforms, and correspondence workflows
  • Own features from intake to payment as part of a feature focused agile team, reducing handoff dependencies and delivering end-to-end business capabilities
  • Expand integration coverage as Workplace Solutions adds new product lines, including employer-sponsored absence and leave management
  • Collaborate with business analysts and product owners to translate claims business requirements into scalable, reliable backend solutions
  • Mentor and coach junior engineers on the team, sharing knowledge of design patterns, best practices, and system architecture
  • Participate in agile ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog refinement, and technical design reviews within a SAFe/ART delivery model
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, code quality standards, and engineering practices as the platform evolves
  • Evaluate integration patterns and make architectural recommendations that balance technical debt, scalability, and delivery speed

What You'll Bring

  • 5+ years of professional Java application development with strong hands-on experience in Spring and Spring Boot
  • Proven experience designing and building REST APIs and microservices in an enterprise environment
  • Strong SQL skills and comfort working with relational databases in an integration context
  • Self-directed and tenacious problem solver who can drive issues to resolution with minimal supervision
  • Comfortable working in agile teams and collaborating closely with business analysts and non-technical stakeholders
  • Track record of writing clean, testable code with unit testing frameworks such as JUnit or Spock
  • You promote a culture of diversity and inclusion, value different ideas and opinions, and remain curious in all that you do
  • Able to work remotely with access to high-speed internet; must be located in the United States or Puerto Rico

Preferred

  • AWS, MuleSoft, or other cloud integration and middleware platforms
  • Oracle database experience
  • Kafka and event-driven architecture
  • Docker, Jenkins, Kubernetes, or CI/CD pipeline tooling
  • Experience with FINEOS or other SaaS claims/insurance platforms
  • Familiarity with SAFe, ART delivery, or large-scale agile environments

We value diverse experience, skills, and passion for innovation. If your experience aligns with the listed requirements, please apply!
