Summary
This is a PARS (Public Agency Retirement System) budgeted position and is limited to 999 hours per fiscal year.
This is not a PERS eligible position.
The Department Specialist/Intern position assists the Land Development Permit Technician position in the Engineering Service Area with providing effective customer service. This individual will be stationed at the Engineering front counter to assist with general customer service, plan intake, and engineering research functions, allowing Engineering staff to review private development projects in a timely manner.
Key Responsibilities
- Helps provide information and assistance to the public at the Engineering front counter and by phone regarding project processing and application procedures;
- Researches and responds to public and interdepartmental inquiries. Presents and interprets the resulting engineering plans, design standards and engineering policies to all customers both in person and occasionally via email;
- Operates computer terminal and software related to department functions;
- Helps screen check and investigate engineering reports, plans, and maps for accuracy, design, completeness and conformance with codes and ordinances;
- Assists in the preparation of presentations, engineering reports and cost estimates;
- Assists with digitizing and organizing files and plans;
- Maintains log books and project tracking databases;
- Performs related duties as required.
Hourly Rate of Pay: $20.00 per hour, includes P.A.R.S. retirement program and workers' compensation. This part-time non-benefited position would continue to be limited to 960 hours per fiscal year.

Minimum Requirements
Education and Experience
Minimum qualifications are graduation from high school or equivalent, with a minimum of one year of supplemental college level engineering course work or experience. The ideal candidate will be pursuing or will have recently obtained a college degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Structural Engineering or a similar Engineering related discipline.
License and Other Requirements
Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license for field work when necessary.
