Job Description

The Patient Access Specialist will support the patient intake and registration process within a healthcare organization. This role serves as a primary point of contact for patients and helps ensure accurate scheduling, insurance verification, registration, and financial clearance while delivering excellent customer service.


This position is ideal for someone with healthcare registration, scheduling, insurance verification, or patient access experience. Candidates without healthcare experience may also be considered if they bring strong customer service experience from retail, food service, hospitality, call center, or other fast-paced customer-facing environments and are motivated to build a long-term career in healthcare.

Key Responsibilities

  • Greet and assist patients in person and over the phone
  • Schedule, reschedule, and confirm patient appointments
  • Register patients and maintain accurate demographic information
  • Verify insurance eligibility, benefits, referrals, and authorizations
  • Collect co-pays, deductibles, and outstanding balances
  • Explain financial responsibilities and payment options to patients
  • Obtain required consent and privacy documentation
  • Coordinate with providers, nurses, and insurance companies to support patient care
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA and organizational policies
