Manual Machinist

1st Shift

Metals USA -- Gregor Technologies Division is seeking a Manual Machinist -- 1st shift in Torrington, CT. Metals USA is a solid, growth oriented aluminum/stainless steel distribution center servicing the defense, aerospace and fabrication industries.

Responsibilities:

  • Cut and shape the part using a combination of lathes, presses, grinders and cutting machines which are both manual and computer-controlled
  • O.D. and surface grinding on manual and CNC grinders.
  • Checks the tool's dimensions with precision measuring instruments like micrometers, gauges and calipers.
  • Must be self-motivated and willing to produce high-quality, value-added product.
  • Operates production equipment to produce products in accordance with production needs.
  • Sets up machine with the proper program, tools and material for specified part.
  • Produces assigned products in accordance with verbal and written instructions.
  • Checks part to ensure accuracy to print.
  • Notifies team leader immediately of any problems when running a part.
  • Fills out production paperwork, follows shop system data collection procedures and follows inspection procedures on a daily basis.
  • Performs scheduled maintenance and inspection on equipment per machine specifications
  • Maintains work areas in a clean, orderly and safe manner to include returning tools to designated areas.
  • Notifies management of product discrepancies or equipment malfunctions, and or personal injuries.
  • Adheres to established company policies and procedures paying special attention to safety regulations.
  • Adheres to Reliance Steel and Aluminum's Code of Conduct as well as customer confidentiality requirements.
  • Wears personal protective equipment in accordance with training guidelines.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • High School Graduate with technical training or equivalent (combination of education and experience)
  • Previous experience with manual equipment/processes.
  • Ability to work in a safe manner and follow all safety procedures.
  • Ability to learn new skills and technology as it pertains to business and fabrication needs
  • Ability to read engineering drawings
  • Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy
