Summary:
The Project Buyer is responsible for the end-to-end procurement process of engineered equipment, raw materials, and components (e.g., castings, motors, seals, impellers) necessary for specific pump manufacturing projects. This role ensures that materials are procured to meet project timelines, quality standards, and budget constraints. The Project Buyer acts as the vital link between Engineering, Project Management, and Suppliers to ensure successful product development and production, from early sourcing to project completion.
Key Responsibilities
  • Sourcing & Procurement: Identify, evaluate, and select qualified suppliers for engineered pump components. Issue Request for Quotation (RFQ) and prepare commercial bid analyses.
  • Contract Negotiation: Negotiate pricing, payment terms, and technical changes with suppliers to achieve best-cost, quality, and delivery targets.
  • Project Alignment: Coordinate purchasing activities with project timelines (BOM cost management) to ensure all materials arrive on time for assembly.
  • Supplier Management: Build strong relationships with key suppliers to ensure a reliable supply chain. Monitor supplier performance (quality, lead time, and cost) and conduct supplier audits/visits.
  • Technical Liaison: Work closely with Engineering and Production teams to understand technical specifications, manage BOM (Bill of Materials) changes, and resolve supplier capacity issues.
  • Order Management: Create and manage purchase orders (POs) in ERP systems (e.g., Prophet 21, Infor M3) and expedite deliveries to avoid production delays.
  • Quality Control: Ensure that purchased materials meet quality standards, cooperating with Quality Assurance to address and resolve non-conformances.
  • Risk Mitigation: Proactively identify potential risks in the supply chain (e.g., foundry capacity shortages) and develop contingency plans.

Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • Experience: 3-5+ years of procurement experience, preferably within the pump, machinery, or heavy manufacturing industry.
  • Technical Knowledge: Understanding of manufacturing processes (foundry/casting, machining, welding) is highly desirable.
  • Systems: Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., Infor M3, Prophet 21) and Microsoft Office Suite, specifically advanced Excel skills.
  • Negotiation: Proven ability to negotiate contracts, terms, and conditions.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
