Indiana Connections Academy (INCA) is a tuition-free, virtual public charter school for students in grades K-12 throughout Indiana. INCA is authorized by Ball State University and governed by an independent Board of Directors. The school is operated by Indiana Connections Academy, a nonprofit corporation, through a contract with Connections Academy of Indiana, LLC, to provide its educational program and other services. The school was founded in 2010, as part of the Indiana Department of Education Virtual School Pilot Program, and became a charter school in the fall of 2011. INCA is accredited by the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement, an accrediting division of AdvancED.

Position Summary and Responsibilities

Working from our office in Indianapolis, IN or from home in Indiana, the ELL Teacher will “virtually” manage instructional programs for students with ELL needs. Through use of the telephone, Internet and various curriculum tools they will consult regularly with learning coaches and students to ensure that each child successfully completes his/her instructional program. The ELL Teacher will participate in all steps of the ILP process. They will work closely with other teachers and district professionals to ensure that the school’s ELL program is successful and operating in compliance with federal and state regulations. The ELL Teacher will utilize technology to deliver virtual instruction. 
The ELL Teacher will be responsible for the successful completion of the following tasks: 

  • Manage and provide instructional guidance, virtual teaching and general strategies for a caseload of students; 
  • Identify and screen Potential ELL students;
  • Develop, write and help implement ILPs; 
  • Schedule WIDA testing;
  • Complete all required ELL DOE state reporting tasks;
  • Evaluate tests and assessments, complete progress reports and conduct parent conferences; 
  • Communicate regularly with parents/learning coaches of students with special needs to insure that their ILP goals are being met, and that their needs are addressed in a timely and appropriate fashion; 
  • Consult with teachers and coordinate the implementation of specially designed instruction as defined in the ILP regarding students with specific  ELL needs and potential learning issues; 
  • Provide direct services to students including services delivered through web-conferencing software, as needed; 
  • Schedule, organize and conduct ILP related meetings in a virtual environment, as needed; 
  • Help teachers and learning coaches develop and implement program modifications and strategies for ILP students; 
  • Manage the proper implementation of all paperwork, documentation and procedures for the ILP process; 
  • Monitor students exited from LEP services for entire monitoring period, including progress monitoring and phone call check-ins;
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date data in the school’s Education Management System; 
  • Assist with administering state testing and coordinate the special accommodations  that are required based on the ILP; and 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Degree in ELL (K-12)
  • Valid Indiana ELL certification
  • Experience in Title III policy
  • Residency in Indiana
  • Strong technology skills (especially with Microsoft Office products)
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Customer focused approach
  • High degree of flexibility
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in fast paced environment
  • Team player track record
  • Willingness to travel on occasion for marketing and state testing events (may require occasional overnight travel)
